  • CHÁOS. Hegel Global 2026 Special - ep. 02
    Oct 1 2026
The Cháos editorial team has attended Hegel Global 2026, the 36th International Hegel Congress organized by the International Hegel Society under the scientific direction of Professor Francesca Iannelli. The Congress aims to provide a global view of the contemporary relevance and legacy of Hegelian Philosophy and its worldwide reception. After all, it is embedded in Hegelian Philosophy itself to aspire to the whole, and to believe that separateness must be overcome. We chose to bring you with us on this journey by interviewing speakers among professors and researchers who contributed to the Congress. This episodes features the interviews of Professor Marco Aurélio Werle, Doctor Francesco Campana, Doctor Mohaddeseh Rabbaninia, Professor Lara Conte, Professor Chiara Magni, Doctor Elena Tripaldi, Doctor Silvia Locatelli, Doctor Gregor Moder, Profesor Alain Patrick Olivier, Professor Paul Kottman, Professor Andreas Arndt, and Professor Francesca Iannelli. Curated by Carlotta Malafarina, Damiano Magrini, and Melissa Di Nella. Following are the transcripts and translations for the interviews that were not conducted in Italian: PROF. English There are certainly points of tension between Hegel’s concept of art and the poetics of German Romanticism, but also points in common. Both Hegel’s aesthetics and Romantic aesthetics are consequences of the emergence of aesthetics as a discipline and of the revolution brought about by Kantian philosophy. First, aesthetics as a discipline, something that appeared in the 18th century, and also the revolution that took place in philosophy, namely with Kant’s philosophy. The question that arises, however, is how Hegel and Romanticism understood the task of aesthetics. Hegel speaks of the philosophy of fine art, which means something more than aesthetics as a theory of sensibility. He built up a philosophy of art as a system. The word “aesthetics” as a theory of sensibility is used by Baumgarten and Kant. But Hegel takes this a step further and says that it would be important to construct a philosophy of art. And here there is a major difference. Romanticism, by contrast, developed the ...

  • CHÁOS. Hegel Global 2026 Special - ep. 01
This episodes features the interviews of Magnificent Rector Professor Massimiliano Fiorucci, Professor Luca Aversano, Professor Ruth Hagengruber, Professor Valerio Rocco Lozano, Professor Paul Cobben, Professor Mariana Teixeira, Professor Klaus Vieweg, Professor Paolo D’Angelo, Professor Paolo Vinci, Professor Bruno Haas, Professor Jim Vernon, and Doctor Elena Nardelli. Curated by Carlotta Malafarina, Damiano Magrini, and Melissa Di Nella. Following are the transcripts and translations for the interviews that were not conducted in Italian: PROF. English The international dimension is certainly a theme that characterises our university, but a conference of this scope on Hegel, bringing together a great many scholars from all over the world, is a particularly prestigious event that honours us, and we are very happy to host it. Moreover, there will be speakers of the highest calibre, and this is also linked to a great Italian tradition of Hegel studies, which runs, of course, from Bertrando Spaventa, Croce and Gentile up to, in more recent times, Valerio Verra, who was one of our professors of the history of philosophy, a scholar of idealism and of Hegel, and certainly among the most important. Receptions of Hegel differ greatly around the world, but the great themes and the great scholars know no borders. This is an important message: international exchange, knowledge and scientific research have no homelands. They are a global territory where different viewpoints, approaches and traditions meet precisely in order to innovate. There is, so to speak, no innovation without tradition, but traditions must also be carried forward, cross borders and lead to new knowledge. PROF. English This is a planetary initiative, as the title of the conference itself says. Scholars from all over the world have come here to Rome to address themes that are both disciplinary and truly topical and intercultural, touching on various spheres of civilization itself and on the various political, aesthetic and artistic orientations of the contemporary world. We are delighted to open the academic year, 2026–2027 at this point, with this conference, this congress, which focuses on philosophy as a ...
