  • Healthcare jobs, week of October 19, 2026: pharmacy and home care lead
    Oct 29 2026
Open jobs at the 246 employers we follow rose 2.6% in the week of 19 to 25 October, led by pharmacy and home care; pay held steady; plus the week's nurse strikes, contracts and a new federal nursing home program. Welcome to CareJobs. Now Weekly, a short briefing on the American healthcare job market, for nurses, nursing assistants, therapists, techs, doctors and everyone who works in care. This is the episode for the week of October nineteenth to October twenty-fifth, 2026. Every number in this show comes from the job boards of the hospitals, health systems, clinics and care companies that CareJobs. Now reads every day. To measure hiring fairly, we compare like with like: the 246 employers whose career sites we read all week. At those employers, open healthcare jobs rose 2.6 percent in the week, from 130,749 to 134,145, with 41,816 new listings. The board as a whole grew to 353,679 open jobs at 2,104 employers, mostly because we began reading many more employers' own career sites, and that growth says nothing about hiring. Pharmacy grew the most. Open pharmacist and pharmacy technician jobs went from 5,864 to 7,311, up 24.7 percent, in a week when CVS Health grew from 2,012 to 3,652 open jobs. Caregiver and home health aide jobs rose 14.4 percent, and BAYADA Home Health Care posted 547 new listings. Mental health and social work jobs rose 6.9 percent, surgical tech jobs 5.4 percent, physician jobs 2.4 percent and nurse and LPN jobs 0.9 percent. Radiology and imaging was the only clinical kind of job to slip, by 0.2 percent. Pay barely moved. The median hourly rate stated by nurse and LPN jobs was 47 dollars and 25 cents, therapy jobs 47 dollars and 57 cents, imaging 46 dollars and 93 cents, medical assistants 24 dollars and 71 cents, nursing assistants 23 dollars, and caregivers 19 dollars and 50 cents. Across all of these employers, the median stated rate was 41 dollars and 43 cents an hour. In the news. Nurses at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Massachusetts ratified a contract with an average first-year raise of 6.2 percent. At Henry Ford Genesys Hospital in Michigan, nurses ratified a contract and ended a 411-day strike. In Boston, nurses at Brigham and Women's Hospital rejected Mass General Brigham's final offer, and Mass General Brigham began a second round of layoffs in two years. Nurses at Providence Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital in California called a two-day strike. And the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services launched Nurses for Nursing Homes, a 275 million dollar program that offers up to 40,000 dollars of student loan repayment, a 10,000 dollar stipend, or both, for a three-year commitment to a nursing home. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that health care added 17,000 jobs in September, while nursing and residential care facilities lost 9,000. Every figure and every story, with its source, is in this week's news post at carejobs dot now slash news. Thanks for listening to CareJobs. Now Weekly. We will be back next week with fresh numbers.
