The film, "The Exorcist" was based on William Blatty's novel, and a case of possessions that occurred in the 1950s (a case that Blatty looked into himself). However, did you know that there was another source that was used to structure the film version of the book?
The Exorcist: The Believer was originally set as a remake but was reshot to be a direct sequel/follow up to the original film. The film features Ellen Burstyn, who will play Chris MacNeil (Regan's mother).
