When the storm comes…

When life experiences aren’t what you planned…

When disappointment sets in…

When prayers remain unanswered…

What is revealed about your life’s foundation?

What home are you building, and what foundation does it rest on?

In Matthew 7:24–27, Jesus tells us that our spiritual foundation—the foundation that ultimately pours out into every area of our lives—is either built on Jesus, the Rock, or on something else.

And anything built on anything other than Him is like a home built on sand.

The Holy Spirit, in a sense, is our cautionary architect—our wise counselor and even our real estate agent—who lovingly says, “Don’t build here.”

Why?

Because the storm is coming.

Jesus never promised us an easy life. In John 16:33, He tells us plainly that we will have trouble in this world.

The storm may be coming.

The storm may be here.

Or perhaps you’ve just walked through one.

But here’s something important:

The storm doesn’t necessarily create what’s underneath us. It reveals it.

Storms have a way of exposing the idols we’ve built our lives around. They uncover deeper pain, disappointment, fear, and the questions we’ve wrestled with beneath the surface.

And so often, those questions take us all the way back to the garden:

Is God enough?Is He really sufficient?Can I trust Him when life doesn’t look the way I thought it would?

Jeremiah 2:13 gives us a sobering picture of what happens when we abandon God, the Giver of living water, and attempt to make our own broken cisterns—our own sources of security, satisfaction, control, and fulfillment.

The storm is coming.

So before you press play, I want you to ask yourself:

What am I building my life on?

And perhaps even more honestly:

Is there anything in my life that needs to come off the sand?
