Shane Gillis Biography Flash a weekly Biography. Shane Gillis is spending the past few days at the center of another Saturday Night Live controversy, after hosting the October 10 episode with Rosalía as musical guest. The appearance was his third SNL hosting job, a remarkable biographical reversal for a comedian fired from the show in 2019 before ever joining the cast. According to NBC News and NBC New York, Gillis opened with a joke about women’s gym clothing that critics called sexist and misogynistic. The routine triggered widespread criticism across TikTok, Instagram, X, and Threads. Dan Levy publicly condemned the bit, while performers including Martha Plimpton, Kathy Griffin, Ego Nwodim, and Cecily Strong were also reported to have criticized it. The backlash appears verified; claims about its long term effect on Gillis’s career remain speculation. The same episode produced a second, less consequential headline when Gillis accidentally swore during a Green Eggs and Ham sketch. Yahoo reports that he acknowledged the mistake and apologized during the closing goodnights. NBC later edited the profanity out of clips circulated online. He has not been reported to have apologized for the gym joke itself. Social media then generated a celebrity side plot. The Kansas City Star, citing Page Six, reported that Travis Kelce liked a video of the controversial monologue on Instagram. A source described the interaction as support for a friend and said Kelce is a major fan of the show. Kelce has not publicly endorsed the joke, so stronger interpretations are unconfirmed. A separate wave of criticism emerged after old podcast and standup clips resurfaced online. The Express Tribune reported that a circulating compilation includes remarks about teenage girls and youth volleyball players. Those allegations concern old material, and the article describes the online interpretation rather than announcing any legal finding or formal investigation. Gillis’s former girlfriend Grace Brassel also reportedly posted workout content playing off the controversy, while women online shared gym outfits reclaiming his punchline. That social media activity is part of the backlash, but its reach and impact are difficult to measure. For now, the significant story is clear: Gillis’s return to SNL has strengthened his profile while reviving the controversy that has defined his public biography. Thank you for listening.
