The sermon presents the ascension of Jesus Christ as a historical event with a profound theological revelation of His ongoing sovereignty, victory, and intercession in heaven. Through visions in the Book of Revelation, Jesus is portrayed as the exalted Lamb, the faithful witness, and the King of kings, seated at God’s throne, triumphing over evil through His sacrificial death and resurrection. These images—of the ascended Christ among the lampstands, the slain yet victorious Lamb, and the rider on the white horse—affirm that Christ’s ascension secures the church’s protection, establishes His eternal reign, and guarantees His ultimate return to judge the world with justice. These truths are comforting and empowering, assuring believers that despite persecution and suffering, Christ reigns supreme, and His followers are already united with Him in heavenly places. We are called to worship, faith, and perseverance, rooted in the confidence that Christ’s death-resurrection and ascension is the foundation of Christian hope and identity.

  • Necessity of Jesus' Ascension

The ascension of Jesus Christ, occurring 40 days after His resurrection, is a pivotal event that completes His redemptive mission, affirming His victory over sin and death and establishing His ongoing intercession for believers. Far from being a mere historical footnote, it underscores Christ’s dual nature as fully God and fully man, as He ascended in His glorified, immortal human body into heaven, now seated at the right hand of the Father. This act signifies His exaltation as Prophet, Priest, and King, where He intercedes for His people, sustains the Church through the Holy Spirit, and prepares for His return. The ascension is not a departure but a divine appointment—Christ’s humanity now occupies the throne of heaven, securing our hope and union with Him, and guaranteeing our future resurrection and eternal life. Rooted in Scripture, affirmed in early creeds, and essential to the Christian faith, the ascension is a vital truth that must be recovered in the church’s worship and teaching.

  • Let's Stop Diminishing the Lord's Supper
    May 1 2026

    Summary

The sermon calls for a renewed reverence and biblical fidelity in the observance of the Lord's Supper, emphasizing its central role in Christian worship. Drawing from the Gospels, Paul’s letters, and the early church’s practice in Acts, it affirms that the Supper is not a peripheral ritual but a profound act of remembrance, communion, and proclamation of Christ’s sacrifice, meant to be celebrated frequently—ideally weekly—and at the heart of corporate worship. The preacher warns against diminishing the Supper through infrequent observance, mechanical or individualized distribution, devaluing the Supper by viewing it as just a symbol, and the omission of thanksgiving, participation, and teaching. Instead, he advocates for a communal, liturgical, and meaningful celebration using biblical elements—bread and wine—accompanied by the Lord’s own words, intentional fellowship, and a posture of spiritual readiness, restoring the Supper to its rightful place as a vital expression of the church’s unity and identity in Christ. At its core the Lord’s Supper is a spiritual meeting between the risen Lord and His people. By treating it with more reverence and frequency, the church can better participate in the "sweet, intimate fellowship" and the forgiveness of sins that the meal is meant to proclaim.
