On our beyond the model Episode 2, we had the pleasure of interviewing Thomas Kipf.

A researcher whose career has gone from strength to strength, we were able to disect Thomas' journey from a Physics undergrad to Computer Science PhD to Senior Staff Research Scientist at Google DeepMind.

He works on their flagship AI Research products such as Veo (Video generation model) and Flow.

Thomas' work has had immense impact, and oftentimes people wonder how exactly do you get to the position in which you can produce such work? Is it raw skill? Intelligence? Luck? A mixture of all three?

A profoundly humble, articulate, talented researcher, Thomas gives an overview of the work he has done so far. If this is a career path you could ever be interested in, you might want to listen to this!

We had the pleasure of sitting down with Yanping Huang, former Research Director at Google DeepMind and Google Brain. Yanping's research career has been nothing short of exceptional. He is responsible for pioneering techniques the entire AI community use today.

In this episode, we got to really know Yanping and were lucky enough to hear his journey from Physics undergrad to Neuroscience PhD to leading elite research teams inside Google. Yanping shared with us how this all happened, the actions he took and we explored his why.

Now a Start-Up founder, Yanping shared what really happens behind closed doors at Brain and now DeepMind. We discussed multiple key questions but really settled on one topic - how do businesses reduce over-reliance on core foundational AI models?

Don’t miss Yanping’s advice for scientists navigating corporate politics, innovation and launching something truly new.
