We cannot talk about authenticity and not at some point talk about the ego and how our self-image plays a role in being true to ourselves.
Sometimes, our ego can get in the way of being authentic because we may focus too much on seeking importance, significance, or a heirarchy that ensures the illusion of acceptance for the sake of our survival rather than just being who we really are.
Striking a balance between our ego and authenticity asks us to bring awareness to how are we really showing up?
While we can perhaps do the work of authenticity alone we will often find ourselves in enviornments and in relationships that provide the right contrast to our belief systems in order for us to choose if what we have held onto as our identity is in fact true in all settings.
