How can nondual spirituality and psychological healing work together without slipping into spiritual bypassing or psychological bypassing? In this video, I explore the relationship between spiritual awakening, trauma healing, dissociation, and psychological integration. I distinguish between a nondual, deconstructive mode of practice—where thoughts, emotions, sensations, and the sense of self are recognized within awareness—and a healing, reconstructive mode that turns toward wounded, protective, or dissociated parts of ourselves with curiosity, compassion, and loving attention.
Rather than seeing awakening and healing as competing paths, I argue that they can deeply support one another. Nondual practice can strengthen our capacity for disidentification, spaciousness, and presence, while trauma healing can help us integrate the psychological material that makes spiritual realization difficult to embody in relationships and everyday life. The key is learning to discern what each moment is asking for: Does this experience need to be opened through into awareness, or does it need to be felt, understood, loved, and reintegrated?
