Okay so... tea's ready.

Welcome to Auntea-Ology, the podcast where we spill the tea on the ups, downs, and all the messiness in between of equity and social justice work. Hosts Mueni and Sobia bring a combined 20+ years of international development, equity, social justice, and academic work into the open, to tell the truth about what happens when good intentions fall short, systems silence us, and navigating the work risks our sanity.

Join us as we bring our kitchen table conversations to listeners, sharing our experiences and the lessons we've learned along the way.

Come curious. Leave knowing you're not alone.

This is the antidote. And the poison? It's everything we're too scared to say out loud.

Stay messy. Stay curious. Stay loving.

New episodes drop every Sunday. Pour yourself a cup and pull up a seat. The aunties are talking.

  • Episode 9: The Yes that Breaks You | Auntea-Ology: The Antidote Dialogues
    Sep 13 2026

Have you ever said yes, when every part of you was screaming no?

In Episode 9 of Auntea-ology: The Antidote Dialogues, hosts Sobia Ali-Faisal and Mueni Mutinda spill the tea on the yes you regret. The one that cost you sleep. Boundaries. A piece of yourself.

We're talking about why saying no feels impossible when you have no leverage, even when you do have leverage but don't feel it. What you lose every time you say yes to survive. And the tiny acts of resistance that cost nothing but change everything.

    In this episode:

    • Mueni shares a story that will hit home for anyone who's ever ignored that quiet, insistent voice: in the middle of a pandemic, in the middle of a move, she took a job that looked perfect on paper, but came with a sinking feeling she couldn't shake. She signed the contract anyway. And the cost was immediate: anxiety, stress, exhaustion, illness.
    • We explore the difference between a yes that comes from abundance and a yes that comes from fear and why the latter always costs you something.
    • We name the quietest form of oppression: the voice that tells you your experience doesn't count, that you have no leverage, that you should be grateful for what you have.
    • We ask the question nobody asks out loud: What would it cost you to say no and what does it cost you when you don't?

    Reflection Questions for You:

    • What yes are you carrying right now that you wish you could take back?
    • When did your body try to tell you something was wrong - and you didn't listen?
    • What would it take for you to trust that life would take care of you if you said no?
    • What's one tiny act of resistance you could take this week to honor your truth?

    What You'll Walk Away With:

Permission to pause. Permission to listen to your body. Permission to say no—even when it feels impossible. And a reminder that you have more power than you think.

  • Episode: 8 The Voice in Your Head Is Lying | Auntea-Ology: The Antidote Dialogues
    Sep 6 2026

Have you ever been in a room full of people who seem to know exactly what they're talking about....and felt completely sure you were the only one who didn't belong?

In Episode 8 of Auntea-ology: The Antidote Dialogues, hosts Sobia Ali-Faisal and Mueni Mutinda spill the tea on the voice in your head. The one that says you're not doing enough, you haven't read enough, you're not pure enough for the movement. We're spilling on perfectionism, burnout, and the dirty secret nobody tells you: we're all guessing.

    In this episode:

    • Sobia shares a story that will hit home for anyone who's ever felt like a fraud: navigating a PhD without having read bell hooks, Audre Lorde, or James Baldwin, and the exhausting performance of pretending to know things she didn't.
    • We explore the myth of the "well-read activist" - the unspoken pressure to have read every theorist, to have the perfect analysis, to never show up with gaps in your knowledge.
    • We name the turning point that changed everything: watching a highly accomplished supervisor simply say "I don't know" without shame, without defensiveness, with genuine curiosity.
    • We ask the question that breaks the spell: What would it take for you to stop believing you're the fraud?

    Reflection Questions for You:

    • What's the voice in your head saying right now, the one you'd never say out loud?
    • When did you last pretend to know something you absolutely did not know?
    • What would you do if you stopped believing you're the fraud?
    • Who in your life needs permission to say "I don't know" - and could you be the one who gives it to them?

    What You'll Walk Away With:

Permission to not know. A framework for shifting from performing to learning. And the reminder that the voice is lying. It's just fear dressed up as self-awareness.

  • Episode 7: Moving at the Speed of Trust | Auntea-Ology: The Antidote Dialogues
    Aug 30 2026

Have you ever heard someone say "we're moving at the speed of trust".....and felt your stomach drop?

In Episode 7 of Auntea-ology: The Antidote Dialogues, hosts Sobia Ali-Faisal and Mueni Mutinda spill the tea on the most dangerous phrase in social justice. It sounds beautiful, right? Patient. Grounded. Community-centred. Until you realize it's been three years and nothing has changed. Until you're caught between the community you're building relationship with and the donor who wants a report yesterday.

    In this episode:

    • Mueni shares a story that will resonate with anyone who's ever been the bridge: working with BIPOC community members who have been burned before, building genuine trust, while the funder demands outputs, metrics, and proof that something is happening.
    • We explore the gap between what the work requires and what the system demands - and the impossible position of the person caught in the middle.
    • We ask the question that changes everything: How do you tell the difference between genuine trust-building and being stalled?
    • We name the cost of being the bridge - the unseen, unpaid, unacknowledged labour of holding both sides.

    Reflection Questions for You:

    • Where in your life are you waiting, and how long have you been waiting?
    • When does patience become a trap? How do you know which one you're in?
    • What would happen if you stopped waiting and acted anyway?
    • If you're the one asking others to trust you, what are you doing to earn that trust?

    What You'll Walk Away With:

A way to distinguish between pace and stalling. Language for naming the tension out loud. And the recognition that trust isn't a timeline, it's a practice.
