  • Argyle Stories Episode 1: The Dan McCauley Era
    Jan 11 2026

Welcome to Argyle Stories, a series about Plymouth Argyle told through feeling, community, and memory… not tactics.

In Episode 1, we go back to the 1990s and the Dan McCauley era: a decade of big names, big promises, and a club constantly teetering between hope and chaos. We start with a night under the Home Park floodlights in 1996, the Colchester play-off semi-final that made a generation believe again, before zooming out to the Plymouth of the time: a city between tides, looking for its identity as the dockyard era faded.

From Peter Shilton’s glamour gamble to Wembley ’96 and the brutal hangover that followed… from press bans and protest culture to fanzines, PASOTI, and the mindset that still shapes Argyle supporters today, this is the story of how the fanbase was rewired.

Because if you support Plymouth Argyle, you don’t just follow a team.

    You inherit stories.

💚 Subscribe for more episodes as we move through the eras, next up: Paul Stapleton, Paul Sturrock, and the feeling of revival.
