Do you ever get that feeling you’re being watched… even when you’re just driving to the grocery store?
Well, you probably are.
As of mid-2026, Flock Safety says it has more than 120,000 cameras installed across 49 states. That’s their own number. Independent mappers who’ve been out there physically locating these things have confirmed nearly 96,000 of them so far. The rest are still being found.
These aren’t regular traffic cameras. They’re automated license plate readers. They capture the plate, the make, model, color, and even bumper stickers or damage on your vehicle.
Then that data gets uploaded, is searchable, and can be shared. Flock claims the network scans more than 20 billion plates a month. With about 300 million registered vehicles in the country, that works out to the average car being scanned hundreds of times a year.
On today’s episode, Micah Messer joins me and we’ll be discussing what may be good and what’s bad with the onslaught of Flock cameras across the country.
