  • Are We Losing Control of AI, Phones & Algorithms? | Amazing Pop Culture
    Sep 23 2026

AI is getting smarter, phones keep getting bigger, and somehow our attention spans keep getting shorter.

Dags and Mike start with a simple question: Is AI actually becoming dangerous, or are we just being scared into thinking it is?

That sends them down a rabbit hole involving stories of AI supposedly going rogue, the difference between AI and AGI, military AI, and whether machines could ever understand something like love—or eventually decide they don't need us.

Then the conversation takes a turn: Why do we keep buying new phones when they barely seem better than the old ones? Why can't we easily replace batteries anymore? Are Siri and Alexa always listening? And how much of modern technology is really about making our lives better versus keeping us locked into the next upgrade?

Then they get into TikTok, Shorts, clickbait, constantly changing thumbnails, streaming impatience, and the algorithms fighting to keep us watching for just a few more seconds.

Are we still deciding what we watch, buy, and pay attention to—or are algorithms increasingly making those decisions for us?
