Alternate Ending was formed when three friends realized that they all shared a passion for movies. Tim had been reviewing films at his old blog Antagony & Ecstasy for over a decade, and Rob & Carrie had found great success with their year-old podcast, when they all decided to combine forces to create a new site, dedicated to their desire to watch and discuss the best (and worst) that cinema has to offer. The result is the website you see before you. What makes Alternate Ending different from all the other film sites on the internet? Well, we humbly suggest that it's the three of us: very different people with very different thoughts about the movie. Too many film sites cater to the same kind of audience, with one overwhelming voice in the writing, but what we treasure at Alternate Ending is diversity: diversity of opinion, diversity in belief about what film should do and how it should do it. We want to celebrate our different opinions, and celebrate yours as well. This isn't a site for people who just want to talk about the latest hot new movies in theaters right this minute. This is a site for people who can't get to the theater until the third week a film is out; a site for people who just want to find something great to stream online after the kids have gone to sleep, a site for people whose favorite pastime is to grab a bunch of classic films on DVD from the library and watch them all weekend. It's a site that believes that every great movie is a wonderful new treasure, whether you see it the night of its premiere or fifty years later. It's a site about discovering good movies, one bad movie at a time. Arte
  • November 2026 Movie Preview
    Oct 27 2026

We've got a jam-packed month of movies coming our way in November, and Tim is joined by Cameron and Brian in a long fight to talk about as many of them as we possibly can, from Oscarbait to trashy children's movies. Before the main event, Brian catches up with the video animation Aztec Batman, while Tim has been tasked by Patreon supporter emob to watch the absolutely wild Italian horror movie Amok Train AKA Beyond the Door III AKA Amok Train: Fahrts in Nichts AKA... well, it's an Italian film, so AKA a lot of things. Cameron has taken up the slack of watching a big new release, looking at a quasi-documentary that calls into question the basics of documentary form and meaning-making with deadpan cringe comedy. No, the other one, John Wilson's The History of Concrete.

  • Witches
    Oct 13 2026

Happy early Halloween from Alternate Ending! This week's episode finds Gavin and Caleb using the long, long-delayed release of the uncut version of Ken Russell's The Devils, a controversial masterpiece about a witch panic, to take a deep dive into cinematic depictions of witches: what defines a witch, why are so many of the best witches in non-horror, and how far we can go in trying to fit non-witches into a witch-shaped box. With both Tim and Brennan distracted by other spooky season obligations, Gavin and Caleb welcome Dan Stalcup and Brian Terrill, co-hosts of The Goods: A Film Podcast. Thanks to Dan and Brian for swinging by, and welcome to the Alternate Ending extended family! To kick off the episode, Caleb brings the new Korean genre-bender Hope to the movie roundtable, while Dan checks out the recent The Rivals of Amziah King. Brian goes back to 1947 for the original Nightmare Alley, and Gavin wraps the roundtable by sputting wrathfully about the divisive new flop Digger.
