  • Your Local Bookstore - Fostering Curiosity and Connection - Mara Silverstein
    Jul 16 2026

Today's guest on Agents of Humanity is Mara Silverstein, Co-Founder of Book RePort with Katheleen Schechter - bringing books, coffee, and community programming to the heart of Port Washington, NY. Book RePort was created in response to the closure of a beloved neighborhood bookstore that once served as a gathering place for the community. What began as a shared desire among residents to bring a bookstore back to town evolved into a grassroots effort and ultimately, a new business built on that collective energy. “Book RePort is more than a bookstore,” said Silverstein. “It’s a space for connection, conversation and community. We wanted to create a place where people feel welcome to spend time, discover books, and engage with one another.”
