Decades ago, someone worked a little harder, saved a little more, or prayed a little longer so that our lives could be better than theirs. We’re living in the world they built. And one day, our grandkids will inherit the world we’re building right now, choice by choice.

In the Season 1 finale of American Future, Dan and Del start dreaming. In 2050, 2070, or even 2100, what will the history books say about our time? And if things went surprisingly well for America, what (and who) made it happen?

It could be that we personally have more to do with America’s future than we realize. Because "We the People" don't merely cast votes that steer America; we ARE America.

Every generation has its turn. Right now, we have ours. Ready to start building?

Here's the thing about cities on hills: everyone can see them. And in America's case, the whole world does. They watch when we feed strangers, invent the future, launch rockets, and show up to help. They also watch when we project power, troll allies, borrow trillions, and swing from right to left to right again. No wonder the neighbors have whiplash.

In this episode of Season 1: American Future, Dan and Del chat about America on the world stage and ask why so many people still want in. Then they get to the real question: what kind of character keeps that city shining?

Candidates Wanted: Must be quick-witted, great on camera, and able to own a headline. Movie-star looks preferred. Honesty optional. Sound familiar?

In this episode, Dan and Del trace how American leadership became a popularity contest, from the 1960 Kennedy–Nixon debate to a mostly forgotten 1913 change that removed a guardrail the founders built for exactly this problem. If you're tired of mudslinging, special interests, and "hold your nose" votes, there's good news: much of the fix is still in our hands.

The next generation of leaders is being shaped right now in our homes, schools, churches, workplaces, and local leadership posts. And we get to help, starting with what we cheer for.
