Zechariah’s prophecy opens with a call for the post-exilic Jews to return to God and through a series of visions encourages them to continue working to restore the temple and their worship. Farther into the future, Zechariah reveals that the people of the nations who remain after the catastrophic judgements of that age will come to Jerusalem to worship God as King. This strengthened the exiles who had returned to a city that was in ruins from the Babylonian invasion from 67 years earlier.
