For coach educators, one of the biggest challenges is helping new coaches move beyond the question: ‘Am I doing it right?’ Effective supervision can provide the confidence, reflection and psychological safety that trainees need to develop their practice.
In this episode, Charlotte Wilding shares her experience supervising coaches on an ILM Level 7 programme and demonstrates how the NEEDS framework supports her.
The framework is particularly effective for exploring common concerns among new coaches, such as fear of causing harm, managing emotional conversations, or handling challenging clients. Through structured reflection, trainees often discover that they already possess valuable skills from previous professional experiences and do not need to become a completely different person to coach effectively.
