The Ashes - A Secret History of War by Other Means
In Victorian England, it was decided that it would be best for the human desire for conflict to play out on the sports field rather than in the streets of the colonies. They called this Rational Recreation, and cricket became the way to instill into their subjects 'British Values' of gentlemanly conduct, sportsmanship and most importantly.. knowing that you can and will always be beaten by the English.
But what happens when the master gets beaten in his own house? He is cremated, condemned to a tiny little urn. Rational Recreation becomes an Irrational Obsession to fight for ownership of that urn every two years for eternity.
WARNING: The following is an extremely bias Australian take on the worlds fist and oldest sporting rivalry, the bi-annual series of test cricket played between Australia and England known as The Ashes.
