On July 28th, 1987, Klaus Schelke and Bettina Taxis were attacked on board the Viking Sally cruise/ferry line. Klaus passed away after the attack and Bettina went into a coma and when she finally awoke, she was left with permanent injuries as a result of the attack. For decades this case has remained unsolved, but sadly it is not the only tragic murder that has taken place on the Viking Sally, 1 year prior on July 10th, 1986 another murder had taken place when Antti Eljaala was murdered in his state room after being stabbed to death. The death toll on board the Viking Sally would continue to rise when on September 28th,1994 the now renamed ship would sink on its route taking with it 852 lives, out of the 989 passengers on board only 137 were rescued making this one of the worst maritime disasters of the 20th century.
