Roughly 100 years ago, Presbyterian minister by the name of J. Gresham Machen wrote a book called Christianity and Liberalism. In that book, he argued that there's no such thing as liberal Christianity and conservative Christianity, but rather that liberal Christianity is not Christianity at all. In fact, this is an entirely different religion. He made that argument a century ago, which is fascinating, because that argument has simply gained traction, in my mind, as the decades have unfolded. Machen, in his generation, never had to consider the idea of same sex marriage or lesbian preachers or transgender denominational leaders. And yet, his argument was, because liberal Christianity, what we today call progressive Christianity, because that theological tradition has jettisoned biblical authority, once biblical authority is off the table, now there are no natural limits to the progression of ideas that the religion canpromote. That's precisely what we've seen. Liberal Christianity, progressive Christianity, knows no boundaries. And now, the religious left is going voting.
