After a few weeks away, I’m back—and this episode comes straight from real life. Between sickness, business demands, pregnancy, and everyday pressures, God has been reminding me of the importance of self-control, especially when it comes to the words we speak.
In this episode, I share a vulnerable moment where frustration could have easily turned into hurtful words—and how the Holy Spirit stepped in right on time. We talk about why self-control isn’t just willpower, why believers are held to a higher standard, and how the Holy Spirit actively helps us pause, redirect, and choose life instead of momentary satisfaction.
If you’ve ever struggled with what comes out of your mouth, replayed arguments in your mind, or felt that tension right before saying “the thing,” this episode is for you. True self-control is not something we manufacture—it’s something we yield to.
Show Notes
In this episode of the Speak Daughter Podcast, we explore:
- Why self-control is a fruit of the Spirit, not just good behavior
- How the Holy Spirit helps govern our words, thoughts, and reactions
- The danger of “playing out” conversations and scenarios in our minds
- Why the enemy targets the very areas God wants to use most
- Practical, Spirit-led steps to grow in self-control
📖 Galatians 5:22–25 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control… Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”
Why it matters:
This passage reminds us that self-control is not something we achieve through discipline alone—it’s produced by the Holy Spirit. Verse 25 is especially important because it shows that living by the Spirit requires intentional dependence and alignment. You cannot keep in step with the Spirit without first yielding to Him.
📖 Proverbs 18:21 “The tongue has the power of life and death.”
Why it matters:
Your words are not neutral. If God has gifted you with influence, communication, or leadership, the enemy will often try to corrupt that gift through careless, reactive, or hurtful speech. This is why self-control with the tongue is both spiritual warfare and stewardship.
Action Steps You Can Apply Today
- Ask God to reveal areas where self-control is lacking
Both present struggles and future vulnerabilities. - Ask for sensitivity in the moment of testing
Awareness creates space for the Holy Spirit to intervene. - Lean on the Holy Spirit consistently—not selectively
Accept correction, thank Him for it, and apply it immediately.
Refinement is not failure—it’s preparation.
