Sintesi dell'editore

A new excitement comes to the village of Thrush Green when Harold Shoosmith, a distinguished bachelor who has chosen the village for his retirement, takes the corner house on the green. Harold is soon enmeshed in village politics and becomes involved in the private lives of his neighbours as well. His presence has a dramatic effect on Dimity Dean and Ella Bembridge and is the cause of a serious misunderstanding between the two friends.

And the village’s widowed rector finds in Harold a new friend who gives him the courage to end his lonely state.

Very enjoyable

Miss Read stories always deliver a coziness that never let you down. The characters are so lovable and her descriptive word sets the scene for tranquil village life, which is a joy to be immersed in. Almost Postman Pat for grown ups, meant in the most kind and respectful way.

Excellent book

Yet again a lovely simple story from Thrush Green when life can be troublesome to drift into these books is like a breath of fresh air. Also beautifully read by June Barrie she does the voices so well.

Escape

This is a listen to escape from the troubles of lockdown life and immerse yourself in a gentler life of Thrush Green.
It is a long time since I read these books, but it is a treat to return to them again. The narrator is very good too.

The comforting world of Thrush Green

This is a quick listen and engages the listener in the bygone era of everyday village happenings. Life ambles along with a strong theme of the pleasures of cups of tea, home made cake and open fires. Not everyone in the village is sweet and kind nor honest and the knowledge everyone has of everyone else's business can be a curse or a blessing.

Winter in Thrush Green, perfect listening

I love Miss Read and have done since I read my mother’s copies. This winter has seen snow and cold rain, so evenings by the fire, listening to June Barrie narrate have been blissful.
