Poe invented modern suspense. Each emotion that draws and assails human spirit is found in his work. You cannot read a horror novel or see a tragic operatic production without seeing Poe in the shadows. Whether in sing-song rhyme or austere prose, Poe tells pithy and terrifying tales. His writings evoke the Greek tragedies. Poe’s narrators are dangerously unreliable. No character’s sanity or decency can be taken at face value. Narrator Nicholas Stikoski reads Poe with utter sincerity. His curious but normal tone convinces you to trust what you hear, until the supernatural weirdness kicks in.
