Not what I expected.

To be fair, this may just be that I had expected a book that gave me another perspective on the Potter series and this was not it. As a result, my expectations may have been wrong.

It's a philosophical work and it's heavy. Not being a philosopher, it's hard for me to rate it as such a work. In the book, various writers write essays about a philosophical take on various aspects of Potter stories, such as examination of the nature of a soul in the Potter universe.

If you are into philosophy, then the book is for you. If like me, you're just hooked on Harry Potter and can't get enough of it, it's the wrong book.

The Perfect Love Child of Potter and Philosophy

Would you listen to The Ultimate Harry Potter and Philosophy again? Why?

This is such an interesting read/ listen for those who enjoy the intricate workings of the Harry Potter universe as well as the complex subject of philosophy and the many different of schools of thought within the subject. I would listen to this over and over again because it is genuinely interesting and original. I also love that is a collaboration piece and you are able to enjoy the thoughts of a few different authors making this book diverse and challenging.

Philosophically shortsighted and repetitive.

I didn't like it. I have minimal experience in philosophy, but felt the authors made it logical conclusions in some cases oh, we're quite contradictory in other cases, and beat explanations of trivial concepts to death.

this book might be more appropriate for a Harry Potter fan in high school as it raises reasonable questions.

I found the performance mediocre-at-best. There were several times we are her voice sounded mechanical as though I was listening to turn by turn directions

I force myself to read to chapter 12 but couldn't take it anymore. this is only the second of approximately 70 books on Audible that I refuse to finish.

Fascinating

This book adds a whole new dimension to the Series. Although I've read it twice, it inspired me to go back and read it again with a new perspective.

If I could get my credit back I would.

Any additional comments?

The basis for the arguments in this book are completely flawed. Perfect example, you cant use traits of werewolfs or boggart to deduce if Sirius who is a animagus is a man or dog. Its comparing apples and oranges. I kept listening hoping the next chapter would be better but I was wrong. By the third or fourth chapter I had to turn it off as I found myself angrily yelling back at my phone. I get that is a debate about a fictional world. However, Rowling did such an amazing job creating this world that there is now excuse for for this level of failure. I expected a lot more and was disappointed.

Insightful

I enjoyed the arguments put forth by this book. I thought most of it was insightful and on point. My only, vain, complaint is that the narrator said some of the names in a way to which I'm not accustomed.

Severely disappointing

If I could give less than a one star review, I would. Not only was the woman’s voice horribly irritating to listen to, the voices she gave characters were excruciating. Unless you are a philosophy major and enjoy vague hypothesizing, there are not many redeeming values in the material. Besides the plethora of contradictions, the entirety of the book is unorganized and poorly compiled. As someone who eats up anything regarding the Potter universe, this was unbearable to even finish.

Terrible

Absolutely rubbish. This book is about Philosophy and just tags bits of Harry Potter on to get the title. The vast majority of it is mind numbingly boring and also complete crap. 1st book I've ever returned.

Awful, patronising narrator

A lot of the content is fascinating and thought-provoking.

However, the narrator sets my teeth on edge with her patronising tone and does a rubbish job of differentiating when she's reading quotations. She also barely attempts to give the characters within those quotations distinct voices.

Not The Book I Thought It Would Be.

Really struggled to listen to this book. Far too much analysis. Was expecting an insight into the Wizarding World, and got over thinking and tedious repetition!
Not impressed with alot of the thoughts on the characters motives and feelings. Also the not sure that J.K. really wanted so much in-depth analysis of her wonderful books.

Not great

To be honest the narrator is the problem rather than the content. I just cannot listen to her,

I chose this audiobook two years ago and I’ve never been able to finish it.
Better off buying a hard copy if this is your thing.
