Sintesi dell'editore

Upon the death of Mary I (Bloody Mary), Elizabeth I takes the throne, and Brendan Prescott is called to aid the young queen amid a realm plunged into chaos and a court rife with conspiracy.

London, 1558. Queen Mary is dead, and 25-year-old Elizabeth ascends the throne. Summoned to court from exile abroad, Elizabeth's intimate spy, Brendan Prescott, is reunited with the young queen, as well as his beloved Kate, scheming William Cecil, and archrival Robert Dudley. A poison attempt on Elizabeth soon overshadows her coronation, but before Brendan can investigate, Elizabeth summons him in private to dispatch him on a far more confidential mission: to find her favored lady in waiting, Lady Parry, who has disappeared during a visit to her family manor in Yorkshire.

Upon his arrival at the desolate seaside manor where Lady Parry was last seen, he encounters a strange, impoverished family beset by grief, as well as mounting evidence that they hide a secret from him. The mystery surrounding Lady Parry deepens as Brendan begins to realize there is far more going on at the manor than meets the eye, but the closer he gets to the heart of the mystery in Vaughan Hall, the more he learns that, in his zeal to uncover the truth, he could be precipitating Elizabeth's destruction.

From the intrigue-laden passages of Whitehall to a foreboding Catholic manor and the deadly underworld of London, Brendan must race against time to unravel a vendetta that will strike at the very core of his world - a vendetta that could expose a buried past and betray everything he has fought for, including his loyalty to his queen.

Disappointed

I love historical fiction/mystery and was excited when I saw this series . I have enjoyed other books set in and around the Tudor court but this was too much romance and too little plot. The narration was excellent but for me it was the waste of a credit .

Wonderful

Where does The Tudor Vendetta rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I liked this much better than the first book in the series....but maybe that's because the story is richer, with a much more in depth conspiracy. Having been a teacher of British history for years, I was particularly interested in how the characters (both real and imaginary) were interwoven.

Have you listened to any of Steve West’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is his best!

All three of these books were great

I tripped into Gortner's first book 4 days ago ... just finishing this 3rd one. Regardless of historical accuracy Gortner writes excellent story, well read/performed and I would highly recommend the whole series

Well done!

The book, set at the beginning of Elizabeth Tudor's reign is like a stone in a jeweled setting. It is a story in a bigger picture that is both entertaining and informative and is well told with enough pace to make it hard to put down. Much fiction has been set in this period, but this gives a real impression of how many problems at home and abroad there were for the young Queen.

Disappointing.

Only managed two and a half hours of this book. Mind-blowingly tedious political machinations and intrigue narrated at a funeral pace made for a dreadful experience. It was ultimately boring in the extreme.

Great narrative

I thought the narrator was excellent, in fact he was the only reason I finished this book. I didn’t realise this was the third in a trilogy but if this was the best of the trilogy I’m glad I didn’t read the others as I found the story very mediocre.
