A proposito di questo titolo

'Superstition is the most permanent thing in the human mind.'

An astute mystery novella, The Trees of Pride sees G.K. Chesterton pen a tale of intrigue and suspense, brimming with profound philosophical commentary.

Squire Vane, a noble man from Cornwall, has three 'peacock trees' in his local village, imported by his ancestors. However, a sinister legend hovers around these trees: it is said that they are destined to spread disease and bring severe misfortune to those who cross them. A rationalist to his core and allergic to any form of superstition, Squire dismisses these rumours as nothing but foolish whispers. But when some local village people raise the topic with Squire, he can take no more – angered, he insists on spending the night sleeping beneath the trees to prove their harmlessness. However, in the morning, Squire seems to have mysteriously vanished… Rich with Chesterton's wit and haunting imagery, The Trees of Pride is a thrilling exploration of pride and perception. This audiobook is expertly read by Ben Allen.

Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874 – 1936) was an English novelist, philosopher, journalist and critic. A Christian apologist, he is famed for creating the fictional priest-detective Father Brown. His writing was also renowned for his sense of humour: known as 'the prince of paradox', Chesterton often turned common sayings upside down. Admired by several of his literary contemporaries, Chesterton's work is still widely read today.
