Sintesi dell'editore

In the quiet Amish community of Hickory Hollow, Pennsylvania, time has stood still while cherished traditions and heartfelt beliefs have flourished. But a secret lies buried that could shatter the tranquility its inhabitants have grown to love.

When Katie Lapp stumbles upon a satin infant gown in the dusty leather trunk of her parents' attic, she knows it holds a story she must discover. Why else would her Amish mother, a plain and simple woman who embraces the Old Order laws, hide the beautiful baby dress in the attic?

On the eve of Katie's wedding to widower Bishop John, startling news staggers out of her anguished parents, and nothing prepares Katie for the devastation their confession brings. Feeling betrayed, Katie watches as the only life she has ever known begins to unravel, leaving in its wake a furrow of pain and a future of hope.

The Shunning is the first book in a triology that recreates the simple life of the Amish. Its themes of hope and reconciliation show us that even when we think we are far away, God's love is always present.

Easy read pulls you in enough

to feel comfortable with reading the next in the series. Ms Lewis is a fine writer. The "Christian" aspect of it is not overwhelming.

Underwhelming

Just not for me. Story moved so slowly that I put my iPod on fast speed. The characters felt very two-dimensional to me. And the ending was very unsatisfying. I won't be reading any more of these.

Paula from Mississippi

I enjoyed listening to this book although it was fairly predictible. When I got book 2 at the library it just was too light for me. I have no interest now in listening to the others.

The Shunning

The Shunning brings to light a very traumatic experience for anyone living the Amish way of life who is not prepared to walk the line laid down by teachings from generation to generation. A story of love, faith and being torn between doing what is expected and being true to oneselves inner calling.

still as good as I remembered

I read this book when I was younger and I loved the series so much. a lot of books that I read then I find kind of cheesy now, but I was surprised to find that I still quite enjoyed this one. maybe it's because of the way that I was raised. I can relate to the way that Katie grew up and was shunned. I liked the narrator, I think she did a great job.

Intriguing, heart gripping, fantastic!

This was such a great book! so interesting, gripping right from the beginning, and kept me interested the whole way through. I really felt a part of Katie's life, and hurt with her, struggled with her, and cried with her and her Mother. All I can say is riveting, and already downloaded the next one!

Poor Narration

The narration was so poor and distracting. The narrators attempt at the characters accent came off as a Scottish one.

Horrible ending

Seriously?!?? Stop rushing the endings and this one was horrible. You can’t drop that bomb and then end it. Ugh
