Sintesi dell'editore
Texas Rangers. Although they were outnumbered a thousand to one, the Texas Rangers fought a holding action against the complete breakdown of law and order, often paying for peace with their lives. But one county held out against attack after attack, a place so mean that a saint would have turned bad.
Into this valley of death rode Ranger Vaughn Steel, hungering for revenge, thirsting for justice, and determined to wipe out the rustlers of Pecos County.

A pleasant listen without suspense
Zane Grey can undoubtedly write...I like his way of telling the story, full of details of actions and characters' thoughts and feelings. A bit disappointing is the plot; the story unfolds smoothly, without any major surprising event. Except for one important revelation, actually not far from the beginning of the book, the rest is highly predictable. Characters are easy to figure out, and so is the story's course and ending. Certainly a pleasant, relaxing reading, but far from a masterpiece.
I would have preferred a younger voice as the narrator of this story, which mainly involves young characters

Good story - spotty performance
Good Zane grey yarn packed with action and romance. Uneven reading often with odd emphasis and inappropriate pauses. The voice timbre abruptly changes, sometimes mid sentence. The flaws in the reading can be distracting.

Rustlers, Romance, Rules & Renewal
This is a tale where even the meandering prose makes me long to have started earlier on this Earth. Full of adventure bounded only by duty and honor and the fear of necessary actions upon those whose assessments matter most. And In a time when it was still possible to ride finally in peace and joy, away from the setting sun.

Will not download
3rd or 4th time I've purchased, only a buck but still ... Tech support useless and a refund more trouble than it's worth - give this one a pass

narration is great but the story is soso
Zane Grey has much better novels than this, a lukewarm romance/ranger-vs-rustlers story. The narrator does a fine job, however. It's light and amusing but he's done better.

Good old western
Fun to listen to the old western. The language is so different from today . But very good story.

horrible dialog, grating on nerves
Probably written for low educated people of 1914. The dialog between the main characters is annoying and simple especially for the women who lack any depth. Just ugh.

One Riot, One Ranger!
Russ Sittell was a young cowpuncher working for Diane Sampson, daughter of Colonel Sampson, Mayor of Linrock. Diane’s cousin, Sally Langdon accompanied Diane and was a bit of a flirt with the cowboys. Unfortunately for Russ, he had a crush on Sally and would cause him nothing but trouble. Unknown to all, Russ was also a Texas Ranger, placed in Sampson’s outfit to infiltrate the gang of rustlers that worked out of Linrock. Well-known and respected Texas Ranger Vonne Steel arrived in Linrock to speak with the Mayor but was surprisingly unwelcome. He knew who Russ was and spoke to him of their plans. In a short amount of time Steel fell for Diane. Now we have two sad-eyed pups trailing the skirts! Half of the story revolves around the two women. Steel and Russ were there to break up the rustler’s gang and so the story continued on that path. Would the women get their heroes and the Rangers their ladies?

Let justice be done
The story of a Texas Ranger and a Deputy US Marshal fighting a rustler gang and finding romance in west Texas. The first and last acts were great western storytelling. The climatic shootouts were particularly stellar, but the middle act of the story got bogged down in the double romance storyline to the point my attention started to wane. Maybe not Zane Grey’s best work but still an entertaining story that retains the authentic feel of his version of the Old West.

More of a love story than a western
I've read several Zane Grey stories and enjoyed them all. This one however is lacking. When it's a western it's a good Western. The love story consumes way too much content.
