Sintesi dell'editore
New York Times Best Seller
“A bright new voice in the fantasy genre” (George R. R. Martin), acclaimed author Scott Lynch continues to astound and entertain with his thrillingly inventive, wickedly funny, suspense-filled adventures featuring con artist extraordinaire Locke Lamora. And The Republic of Thieves is his most captivating novel yet.
NAMED ONE OF PASTE’S BEST FANTASY BOOKS OF THE DECADE
With what should have been the greatest heist of their career gone spectacularly sour, Locke and his trusted partner, Jean, have barely escaped with their lives. Or at least Jean has. But Locke is slowly succumbing to a deadly poison that no alchemist or physiker can cure. Yet just as the end is near, a mysterious Bondsmage offers Locke an opportunity that will either save him or finish him off once and for all.
Magi political elections are imminent, and the factions are in need of a pawn. If Locke agrees to play the role, sorcery will be used to purge the venom from his body - though the process will be so excruciating he may well wish for death. Locke is opposed, but two factors cause his will to crumble: Jean's imploring - and the Bondsmage's mention of a woman from Locke’s past: Sabetha. She is the love of his life, his equal in skill and wit, and now, his greatest rival.
Locke was smitten with Sabetha from his first glimpse of her as a young fellow orphan and thief-in-training. But after a tumultuous courtship, Sabetha broke away. Now they will reunite in yet another clash of wills. For faced with his one and only match in both love and trickery, Locke must choose whether to fight Sabetha - or to woo her. It is a decision on which both their lives may depend.
Praise for The Republic of Thieves
"Fast paced, fun, and impossible to put down.... Locke and company remain among the most engaging protagonists in fantasy.” (Publishers Weekly, starred review)
"The Republic of Thieves has all the colorful action, witty repartee, and devious scheming that fans of the series have come to expect." (Wired)
"A fantasy world unique among its peers.... If you’re looking for a great new fantasy series this is one you won’t want to miss.... In a word: AWESOME!" (SF Revu)

Tedious exposition without a point
I loved the story, the characters and the narration up until this point. For this book the story was absent and the characters were wrong. The narrator did an amazing job and in my opinion is the only redeeming quality of this audible book.
Who knows, but it seems as though the author was being asked to write the next book when he didnt have a good plot figured out so he just threw something together and hoped for the best. He is a very good writer technically so some readers will likely disagree as it was a very well delivered poor story...

a failed character and a muddled political mess
The story revolves around the character sabatha but fails to make her interesting or admirable in any way. The main story takes place during an election and couldn't be more boring and ultimately inconsequential. This author has shown he can do much better.

A well written and well narrated poor attempt
As always, Lynch’s command of language and writing is well done, as is Page’s narration. Unfortunately, this book is passable at best. The turns in the book are predictable and, when not, just plain puerile. I couldn’t wait to finish it because I just needed it to end. A sad installment to what was a brilliant start and a good second effort. If you read the first, and found the second enjoyable enough, you have to read this, but I can’t say you’ll be happy about it. There are some really enjoyable parts, but they are definitely in the minority. I won’t spoil anything here for anyone, but I sincerely hope the next book gives us less teenage love drama so predictable even I knew how it would end, less mangled story arcs, and gets back to what the first novel gave us. And also, please stop with the assumption that every strong female character has to be a survivor of sexual assault. It cheapens those who are and serves to boil down an entire gender to one side of a coin or the other. It’s a very serious thing and happens to more women than we know, but to propagate the myth that women cannot be strong and independent unless they’ve survived that trauma, or live in fear of it, doesn’t serve anyone. I make that statement with no malice, but more to say this is a crutch I see fantasy writers leaning on more and more. If you’re going to have it, then really take it on. Deal with the aftermath and the pain and the trauma and the impact, or the petrifying fear of it. I’ll put my soapbox away now. Even excluding that rant, this book is really only for those who are invested in the series and who hope for better outings in the future.

Not as good
Locke just became more and more pathetic in this. Half of the actual book has any plot. It’s just kinda bad

Lost its charm in the third book
This book had quite a bit of unenjoyable moments with various flash backs to a full out play that was very shallow, adding little to the story.
The main character's love life story is told throughout the story, and it portrays him as a completely weak self controlled individual, smelt like it was layered with SJW.
Narrator was great and conveyed the feelings of the story quite well.

Most annoying in the series so far
Don't get me wrong - I love the Gentlemen Bastards series. The narration is fantastic and the story is engaging. I love the plot twists and the clever ways the Gentlemen Bastards end up handling the situations they find themselves in.
But this third book in the series had me yelling at my phone in frustration so many times I wanted to fling it across the room. My problem is with the Locke's infatuation with Sabetha: his emphatic yammering of his undying love for her was not only tedious and frustrating but creepy. Seriously, what woman with any self respect would like to be placed on a pedestal like that? It would be suffocating!
I hope the next book in the series brings some balance to their relationship, or skips the issue entirely.

A boring read, not worth it
A pity for a series that started so well. Ok this book, the characters keep on behaving irrational just for the plot, the twists are laughable and the backstory is maybe good for a 12 year old.
Good by Locke Lamora, I won’t be back.

not as good as the first but still great
after the first book the story really goes on rails. the characters are tugged along by forces far outside their influence. it's still an excellently written and enjoyable series

Passable
I enjoyed both the troupe and the 5-year game. the story lines were good. However, much of the two stories appeared as if John Hughes Consulting on it but unfortunately didn't write it.

Great, but lesser
Some of the twists were disappointing, but my love of the characters and world kept me hooked. My excitement for the series has not dimmed, and I eagerly await our next adventure.
