Meet the Pierce family. Desmond Pierce, a hardworking man from the South, is determined to give his and wife and daughters a good life in Compton, California. Pearla Pierce is a sexy and seductive mother who plays wifey and devoted mother only when her husband is home. Then there’s Carmen, a promiscuous 17-year-old on a self-destructive path and jealous of her younger sister. Cashmere, a 13-year-old, struggles to hold her family together out of love for her father.
When tragedy hits home, Carmen and Cashmere find themselves orphans living with their hateful aunt and having to resort to stripping and selling drugs to survive. Carmen drags Cashmere into a world of drugs, violence, and sex when she allows a ruthless pimp named Black to turn her out. Against her will, Cashmere is also forced to work for Black by prostituting herself for high-class ballers.
Carmen’s jealousy toward her younger sister continues when she sees Black falling in love with Cashmere. Carmen’s need to destroy her sister sets off a chain of events that lands Cashmere in jail. Cashmere is left alone and broken, but with the hope that some way, somehow, she can be fixed.

Depressing and dark
I would not recommend this book and I’m glad it was free. The narrator did pretty good but the story was too sickening. If you are an upbeat person, empath or have been through a lot of tragedy, I wouldn’t recommend reading this.

The first audio book to.make me cry. So well written and such a "page turner" omg!!! I am blown away!! Great listen!
and Mishi LaChapelle killed It! Perfect 10 reading

Great story, terrible narration
Story held my attention from beginning to end. I couldn’t stop listening. But the narration was terrible! She should’ve pre read the book first or something because she used the wrong tone and emphasized the wrong words way too often. This should be redone with a better narrator and she needs to practice.

Outstanding
This is probably one of the best books besides the Bible I have ever read!!! This is a page turner for sure...Such heartbreaking and courageous story...The Mishi brought this book to life!!! Love love love it!!!

Tough to read at times, but great story
This is an account of how many of our babies end up in predicaments due to circumstances so far out of their control..I had a lump in my throat a few times. Great story and I love Mishi!

Glad I finished
Several times while reading this book I wanted to stop. Upset with decisions that were made & things happening in the book. However, I did finish & I’m glad that I did. Great listen. Looking forward to reading more books from this author.

wow
I’ve had this book in my library for a while i kept skipping over it and final listened to it wow that was good poor cashmere she had it baddddd but over came everything listen to this story don’t wait its good that’s all iama say.
