Sintesi dell'editore

“If anyone knows how to be a pastor in the contemporary context that person is Eugene Peterson. Eugene possesses the rare combination of a pastor’s heart and a pastor’s art. Take and read!” (Richard J. Foster, author of Celebration of Discipline)

“I’ve been nagging Eugene Peterson for years to write a memoir. In our clamorous, celebrity-driven, entertainment culture, his life and words convey a quiet whisper of sanity, authenticity, and, yes, holiness.” (Philip Yancey, author of What Good is God)

“A good book for folks who like pastors. And a good book for folks who don’t. The Pastor is the disarming tale of one of the unlikely suspects who has helped shape North American Christianity.” (Shane Claiborne author of The Irresistible Revolution)

A must read for pastors

I love Eugene Peterson. I think he is a voice to this generation that is unmatched in its sense of understanding of scripture of a story that is intended to speak to the average person. This is his memoir of how he became a pastor and what he learned about being a pastor. He was a pastor of one church that he started for 29 years before he retired to work full time on the Message Bible. I have read a lot of books about being a pastor, my whole family is basically pastors, but this is the best book on being a pastor. If we could recover pastor as a role in the way that Peterson writes about it, the church would be very different.

This is my third reading of the book and it is just as good as the first.

Touched Me, Helped Me

My Dad was a Presbyterian pastor like the author and a part of me has always regretted nit following in his footsteps mire exactly. I still feel the heart of a pastor in me and this book spoke to that part of me. Though directed primarily to vocational pastors, I am encouraged in my non-vocational pastoral ministry to family, friends, co-workers and to those folks I meet each day. Thank you, Pastor Eugene.

His story told by a wordsmith

A poetic prose by one who made words his stock and trade in the advancing of faith and the recovery of lives. Listening for the third time. For pastors, an absolute must. For Christians, a light in the midst of the muddied times that we live in. Radical christian pastoring. What a joy to read and what an important tonic against the idolatry of modernity and the american way.

Makes Pastoring desirable

First the narration was compelling to listen to. Voice, tone, speed, inflection made me think I was listening to Peterson himself speaking personally to me.
Finally, the content. I am not a pastor and never before entertained it. Following Peterson’s journey into and through the learning left me with the desire to be a pastor. Strange desire in light of his admission of it’s ambiguous nature, that his “vocation means giving witness to what we don’t know much about and can’t explain... living into the mystery of salvation and holiness.”

Such humility and wisdom

I loved this book. Now I think I'm being formed to be a pastor someday and I've learned so much from this book. An unpretentious look at his calling to be a pastor, is so refreshing.

The narrator was really good although I did struggle to finish it but that's because it was a memoir and I struggle to stay focused.

Shalom.

The Pastor

What an eye opener in the life of a pastor. I believe every pastor and pastor to be should read this book. It gives great insight to the different challenges you will encounter as a pastor.

The Story Of A Beautiful Life

The now late Eugene Peterson gave in this book a great record of a truly breathtaking and faithful legacy. I rate this book five stars, but I am blind and the app will not let me. This is a wonderful book to which I was first exposed by a fellow preacher, but recommend this book to any Christian poets, musicians, and theologians. #20thCenturyAmerica #Ministry #Breathtaking #Inspiring #TearJerker #TagsGiving #Sweepstakes

Exceptional

Eugene Peterson's memoirs of his formation and life as a pastor are a beautiful testimony to a well discerned way of being congregation and pastor. A rare gift and well worth the read either by audio or in print.

Encouragement to be “just a pastor”!

This is a good quality audio book version of Eugene Peterson’s Memoir. Starting out in ministry this book offers guidance to stay with vocation and God at the expense of strategies and job- a common temptation clergy fall into when the role seems arid.
I would encourage new clergy and even those who read Eugene in the past to visit and revisit this conversation with him during your own ministry.
