Sintesi dell'editore

The New York Times best seller that’s changing America’s diet is now perfect for younger listeners.

“What’s for dinner"? seemed like a simple question - until journalist and supermarket detective Michael Pollan delved behind the scenes. From fast food and big organic to small farms and old-fashioned hunting and gathering, this young listeners’ adaptation of Pollan’s famous food-chain exploration encourages kids to consider the personal and global health implications of their food choices.

In a smart, compelling format with updated facts, plenty of photos, graphs, and visuals, as well as a new afterword, The Omnivore’s Dilemma serves up a bold message to the generation that needs it most: It’s time to take charge of our national eating habits - and it starts with you.

"Thoughtful, engrossing.... You're not likely to get a better explanation of exactly where your food comes from." (The New York Times Book Review)

"An eater's manifesto...[Pollan's] cause is just, his thinking is clear, and his writing is compelling. Be careful of your dinner!" (The Washington Post)

So glad I finally read this book!

As an adult I still really enjoyed this book and found the principles it espouses to be fascinating. I'm going to be more vigilant about my food choices and am going to try to cook more often and therefore choose better ingredients. Co-op, here I come! -- Despite the fact that this is a young readers edition I still found it engaging and totally worth my time. I hope schools are using this. No matter what your age is, I recommend this book highly! MacLeod Andrews does an excellent job as the narrator, too!

WOW!!!

I loved it. My eyes have opened wide to the real story of how we eat and where our food comes from. I recently urged my wife to support my desire to switch to a plant base diet. And cut way down on eating meat and dairy products. Now I think I’ll become a flexitarian. I wish I read this book sooner.
Thanks

A must read

Loved this book. An authoritive and thoughtful account of what should be one of The most important aspects of being human; what we choose to eat. And how this decision effects our world, for better or worse.

Must Read!

With journalistic excellence, Pollan tracks the journey from plant/animal to food on your plate. The book is packed full of important information that everyone should know about their food sources. All of this is presented as part of an interesting personal story that includes humor and many complex human emotions.

amazing

I listened this novel in the car with my family driving for 8 hours round trip. My children are 7 and 8. We were all interested and this sparked many questions from my sons, especially about the slaughter houses and corn. We have begun eating healthier and more consciously. I am a teacher and I will be reading this with my 8 th grade class. I am looking forward to their reaction.

Only Corn

I was interested to read this book for my language arts class until I actually started reading the book. I had to also write the main ideas and information on this book. It was really boring because it only talks about CORN. It mainly talks about the opinion of the narrator. The narration is FINE but the story plot was extremely annoying and boring. It helps us be aware, so yes, it's helpful for those who need to see what's in their diet, daily. But I personally don't. I'm just at the beginning of the book, so I don't entirely know the entire plot but from what I've already read it's extremely boring.

Much better than I expected

I downloaded this book trying to understand the perspective of other people, and telling myself to give it a real chance (I’m a meat eater who supports hunting and who has friends involved in lots of different spots of different food systems). It was very good. Though some phrasing seemed inflammatory at the time, the book as the whole was balanced and fair. Plenty of details without getting too far into the weeds. I downloaded the kids version on accident, but am happy I did, and the kid-specific comments were good.

Great Book!

A great book! It was very well read, informal, clear, and interesting. You can tell that the author really went through the experience and was honest about it affected him for the better. It definitely opened my eyes to what I choose to eat.

Thought provoking. Engagingly narrated

Being a vegetarian I had no difficulty in the author's choices. I found his compassion for animals and consideration for the decisions we all make heart warming. There's room for everyone in his philosophy.

Everyone should read this book

This book should be made compulsory in schools, it really highlights the problems we face as consumers regarding intensively farmed foods. It's well presented and is engaging all the way through. Highly recommended

If you eat, you must read this

Well I admire what Micheal Pollan has done in this book. At times I didn't want to read bits, too sad. But if I can't read about it then I shouldn't eat it.
I'm a reductarian (vegan 4 days a week) and this book explains why....... for our planet..... for my health..... for animals and humanity!

Great perspective on the food chain

Great perspective on the food chain for those interested in nutrition. I would like my teenage children to read it!
