Bernard Clark
Homer's epic poem, written near the end of the eighth century BC in Greece, follows the hero Odysseus as he journeys home after the fall of Troy. Many scholars believe that The Odyssey was originally composed in the oral tradition and was more likely meant to be heard than read, making it a great listen.

Narrator Bernard Clark's rhythmic intonations contribute to the poetry of Alexander Pope's translation of The Odyssey. Clark's calm performance is simple and understated, keeping the listener's attention focused on the exploits of the Greek hero Odysseus as he embarks on his 10-year journey home. Among other adventures, Odysseus battles the Cyclops and the sea monster Scylla, faces the Sirens and the witch-goddess Circe, and escapes from the nymph Calypso. When Odysseus returns home, he must also contend with his wife's suitors, who have overrun his palace while courting his faithful wife. This audiobook is ideal for listeners who wish to have an authentic experience of this epic, believed to be part of an oral storytelling tradition.
