Excellent all around except....
Anyone who has read the Hobbit and the trilogy Lord of the Rings knows that the books describes many a song. In this unabridged version, the narrator sings every one in the same monotonous, nearly monotone, boring, mind grating poor imitation of a tune. I have listened to the whole series now beginning with the Hobbit. Part way through the Hobbit I began to fast forward through every mind numbing song and continued to do so through all 4 books. It makes an otherwise wonderful narration turn into finger nails on a blackboard with each and every attempt of the narrator to make up a tune for each song. Sadly, he is not a musician or accomplished singer and after the first few words of every song he settles into the same 3 or 4 note nothing that I couldn't listen to without cringing.
It's surprising that the producers of this audio version didn't contact a University School of Music and find some talented student who would have put real music to the verses in the books, probably for nothing more than the credits for doing so. The songs after all are a large part of the overall tale.
