Sintesi dell'editore
Jack Reacher takes an aimless stroll past a pawn shop in a small Midwestern town. In the window he sees a West Point class ring from 2005. It's tiny. It's a woman cadet's graduation present to herself. Why would she give it up? Reacher's a West Pointer, too, and he knows what she went through to get it.
Reacher tracks the ring back to its owner, step by step, down a criminal trail leading west. Like Big Foot come out of the forest, he arrives in the deserted wilds of Wyoming. All he wants is to find the woman. If she's OK, he'll walk away. If she's not...he'll stop at nothing.
He's still shaken by the recent horrors of Make Me, and now The Midnight Line sees him set on a raw and elemental quest for simple justice. Best advice: don't get in his way.

Only half good
The first half was excellent. the second half was boring and pointless. Almost like he finished the original story and thought, this is a short book. better add some more.

My hero
The beginning of the book was brilliant, but then towards the end, it seemed as though Lee Child was rushing to get the book finished. I was really disappointed as I am normally spellbound right to the very end. Reacher did his best to get rid of the crooks and baddies.
As soon as I read the opening chapter of Reacher finding the ring, I had to know who it belonged to. I found out, but the ring was just a small cog in the chain. There was a lot happening in the book, a PI, a large crowd of lowlife and people's lives on the line.
As with most Reacher books, nothing is ever straightforward!

Very Reacher, but
I finished it easy enough but it was Reacher predictable.
I love the way he writes and the narrating was as good as always. However the plot was a bit predictable and somehow familiar.
Probably won't listen to this one again.

less intriguing
In the series - this book is one of the less exciting ones out there. Moving on to the next one. Not going to remember this one in a week..

Excellent!
I am an ardent fan of Jack Reacher. The Midnight Line story line is unexpected, yet fit the Reacher character perfectly. As always Jeff Harding is the perfect voice for Reacher and the rest of the cast.

Dissapointing
I watched the Jack Reacher movie and enjoyed it, but found the book boring and predictable .
The story moved very slow and went nowhere fast.
This was not the Jack Reacher of the movie, this guy belonged in a nursing home.
The narrator was boring. Reading in monotones.

Jack Reacher is back!
Reacher is back to his incredible self, enjoyable from start to finish. A character like no other.
Lee Child manages to hold the attention of the reader with the simplest details. Pulling the reader in, painting a detailed picture, all without the need for multiple story arches, overly complex relationships or new character introductions.
Simple, brutal, real, thoughtful - all words to describe this book.

Reacher's Fine Lines
Right from the opening this book promised to deliver a classic, back to basics Reacher experience. Whether it actually does or not will be questioned by some I am sure due to it's slightly more sedate nature.
It all begins when Reacher detects an injustice, a pawned West Point officer's ring and resolves to check the back story. He's in the middle of nowhere, anonymous towns and places. He quickly sets about finding the truth in his own inimitable way. Child delivers with those short, sharp staccato sentences that despite their design deliver Reacher blunt trauma in bruising fashion. The narration is that classic gravelly drawl which just epitomises the immutable Jack Reacher and his world.
There are indeed a lot of highlights in the book including some classic Reacher negotiations . . . you know how most of them go! There is classic Reacher analysis and diagnostics, some cracking dialogue and I particularly enjoyed Reacher and a PI discussing entering an abandoned house. In many ways this story more than most highlights the golden heart that beats inside Jack's massive and rough looking frame.
If there is one thing missing from this story it is that for me the bad guys never quite step up to the mark. The best Reacher stories have all the investigation set against a constant level of threat from whoever he has set himself against. In this one they don't really manage that meaning that by the standards of this series there is less real tension and excitement. As a result some of the book feels a little staid.
All of that said this is still very enjoyable Reacher and I'm a fanboy so it gets five stars because I love the direct writing style, at once both sharp and quick yet delivering that blunt trauma experience. Although I strongly suspect some Reacher fans might find this one a little sedate in large patches.
For me though Jack's still the best of his kind - the book version of course!

Not the best Reacher but full of suspense.
The story is somewhat predictable and Reacher is not in enough jeopardy compared with others.

Disappointing
Thankfully this isn't the 1st Reacher book I have read and I did not miss out on all the excellent books before this one. I wouldn't have tried a second one if this had been my first.
Not a book I would recommend to a friend

Reacher still does it for me!
Love all the Reacher books. His actions have mellowed in line with his age but he's still the guy I'd want if I was ever 'up the creek'!

Reacher, a man for all occasions
I love the Jack Reacher series but was worried that it had lost its way, this story however brings the series back on track!
We see a different side to Reacher and more about him than his fists.
A good read, i look forward to the next one.
