The Little Book of Hedge Funds is big on explanations even the casual investor can use.

An accessible overview of hedge funds, from their historical origin, to their perceived effect on the global economy, to why individual investors should understand how they work, The Little Book of Hedge Funds is essential reading for anyone seeking the tools and information needed to invest in this lucrative yet mysterious world. Authored by wealth management expert Anthony Scaramucci, and providing a comprehensive overview of this shadowy corner of high finance, the book is written in a straightforward and entertaining style. Packed with introspective commentary, highly applicable advice, and engaging anecdotes, this Little Book:

  • Explains why the future of hedge funds lies in their ability to provide greater transparency and access in order to attract investors currently put off because they do not understand how they work
  • Shows that hedge funds have grown in both size and importance in the investment community and why individual investors need to be aware of their activities
  • Demystifies hedge fund myths, by analyzing the infamous 2 and 20 performance fee and addressing claims that there is an increased risk in investing in hedge funds
  • Explores a variety of financial instruments - including leverage, short selling and hedging - that hedge funds use to reduce risk, enhance returns, and minimize correlation with equity and bond markets

Written to provide novice investors, experienced financiers, and financial institutions with the tools and information needed to invest in hedge funds, this audiobook is a must for anyone with outstanding questions about this key part of the 21st century economy.

Good content

Anthony Scaramucci is overall a pretty straight shooter and I've been aware of his work for many years. He is pretty intelligent and his ability to adapt to situations is something that has lead to his success. There are good insights to be gleaned from this book.

Also there are a number of pretty amusing sound bites when read in the tone Don Hagen delivers them.

It's pretty rare that I rate something 4 stars.

If you don't know anything about hedge funds or even more so funds of funds this is a great intro. If you have reasonable experience you will likely find a new perspective on something. In the time I took to write this review I potentially could have helped add value in excess of $1 bil... if you are on the fence about it just get it.

Excellent overview of hedge funds

If you are interested in learning more about hedge funds, this is the book you need to listen to.

I've been a fan of Anthony Scaramucci for some of his other work in the alternative investment world. I watch his show Wall Street Week every Friday on Fox. Mr Scaramucci is very connected within this industry. He shares his first hand knowledge of hedge funds in a detailed and easy to digest layout in this book.

It's a great read whether you are interested in investing, working in, or just getting more knowledge about this fascinating alternative investment vehicle. It's all laid out here in great detail and pulls back the curtain of this largely secretive industry.

As an added bonus, Mr Scaramucci includes a short interview with select "hedge fund legends" at the end of most of the chapters which provide some candid information on how they got started in the industry and their outlook on its future.

Really good intorduction to the industry.

I've found the "Little Books" series to be somewhat hit and miss, but this one is a hit. It avoids the trap some of its sister books fall into of either skimming over too much material, or covering too little. Scaramucci provides a comprehensive introduction that will give you a much better idea how this vast industry operates, and dispels some of the common myths around it. He also explains some of the common strategies HF use and how they differ from traditional Long-Only funds.

Oh and if you're buying this to find out how to get into the industry, Scaramucci will provide some advice, but he will also give you some truths that will make you think very carefully about whether this is *really* what you want.

Narrator is fine.
