When their father goes missing after a mysterious train crash, Everett and his little sister Bea find a curious pen in his belongings, and its magical Ink begins to rewrite their once-ordinary lives. The Ink leads them to a world they never knew existed-one teeming with impossible magic, formidable allies, and villains who are determined to destroy everything they hold dear. Together, Everett and Bea embark on an adventure through secret tunnels in England and Scotland to find and protect the last Inkwell, and ultimately to save their father. But in order to do so, Everett must find a way to tap into the most magical power of all: his courage.
This classic battle of good and evil pits creativity against the forces that would seek to blot it out for good.

This book is beautifully produced and fast-paced and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The story starts off in a wonderful way, dragging you right into the adventure.
A delightfully inventive book that doffs its cap to a couple of famous fantasy writers by inviting them to join in on the adventure!
The twins and I just finished this incredible book this week and WOW. It's a fantasy adventure in the ilk of Lewis and Tolkien - and, set in the early 1950s, actually features these characters, along with Dorothy L Sayers. Everett and Bea's dad mysteriously disappears on his way back from a week-long work trip to Scotland. Convinced he's still alive, the pair embark a thrilling and dangerous journey to find him, discovering the magic power of Ink as they go. With Christian allegory galore, a plot which twists and turns, a range of eccentric and endearing characters (as well as the fabulously evil blotters who are set to close down the final Inkwell and thus destroy creativity and beauty forever), this is an all-round great read for 8-12s. Highly recommended. (Lucy Rycroft)
