The Constable
Another beautifully fleshed out character that exists in the constellation of J N Chaney's The Renegade Star's universe. The author does a tremendous job of weaving these disparate characters and their story arcs together in an interconnectivle narrative, and The Constable does not disappoint. I have been a fan of Alphonse since he was introduced in The Renegade Star series, and now to know and understand his back story makes it that much more satisfying. I highly recommend this addition to The Renegade Stars story line.

Pure Gold! Ender's Game meets Oceans 11.
I love the Renegade Star series and gave this prequel set a try and absolutely loved it. Book 1 had a Ender's Game/Bean, Oceans 11 feel to it which I loved. Great writing, perfect narrator and a truly original story that really makes me love Alphonse Malloy's character even more. Makes the idea of a Union Constable defecting to the Renegade Star team believable. My only issue is that it's over and jumps to the Renegade Star story and leaves no room to examine this character in more depth and have more of his adventures. I would love to have more of him in the main story line now.

First audible ever
Decided to give audible a try and glad I tried it on this book. I’ve read the Renegade books and this was a great insight into this character. Being able to see where he came from and why he is the way he is. Plus audible is great when you drive 1 hr each way to and from work. Definitely going to check out some more audibles from Chaney!!

Can’t put it down
This is an amazing book. I hadn’t really gotten that invested into Alfonse while listening to Renegade Star but after this series I have a whole new appreciation for him. I couldn’t put it down.

Amazing story and a great performer
The narrator has a wonderful talent and seems to enjoy performing the reading. The story is a background of a main character from JN Chaney's Renegade series, but is also a good stand alone book. I have enjoyed many of his books from the Renegade series and look forward to learning the back stories of other characters. Very well written story and well performed by the narrator.

One of Chaney's Best
I fell in love with this character while reading the Renegade Star series, but he is even better here. Alphonse is one of the most intriguing characters in the ever-expanding Renegade universe and also one of the most complex. He brings a quiet thoughtfulness to the story that you just don't see in fiction these days. It really feels like you're reading Sherlock Holmes in the future, always analyzing what is happening around him while not quite knowing how to react to it. The journey Alphonse takes is one of self-discovery and growth, showing us that no matter how isolated you might be from those around you, you can still find a place for yourself.

Another amazing tale.
This book series is such a great hole filler to better understand characters of the Renegade Star universe. I can now better understand the point of view of Mr Malloy and what drives and motivates him to do what he does. Truly enjoyed this read and listen. You will not be disappointed.

Outstanding series!
Having the back stories was such an amazing idea! Once I get caught up with all of the author's series, then I am going to go back and read the back stories and then the regular series!

Worth it.
The Constable is a great story. it will really pull you in and you will gain a new appreciation for the main character.

Chaney doin' his thang! 👌🏻
An awesome look into the backstory of one of the more intriguing supporting characters from the Renegade Star series of books. I was pleasantly surprised with the route taken with the first book! The pack finishes the second book with a satisfying conclusion to lead you into the main series. ... even if I want more details to bridge the gap. 🤣

Good performance
For all his smarts and "with one look I can tell who you really are" he still gets played not once but twice. fool him once shame on you, fool him twice?
