'The more things are wrong the more we must act as if all were right.'
First published in 1884 and inspired by real-life events, The Body Snatcher is a chilling tale of misplaced ambition, guilt and the horrors of unregulated science.
Set in nineteenth-century Edinburgh, The Body Snatcher follows two medical students, Fettes and Macfarlane, who become entangled in the grisly world of grave robbing to supply cadavers for their studies. As the moral cost of their actions grows, the pair descend further into darkness as Fettes begins to suspect Macfarlane of more than just stealing bodies… A profoundly haunting and suspenseful tale of ethical decay, Stevenson's iconic short story remains a classic work of psychological and gothic horror.
Robert Louis Stevenson (1850 – 1894) was a Scottish novelist, poet and travel writer. Best known for his novels Treasure Island and Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, his work spanned from romance and adventure writing to gothic dark realism. He remains one of the most translated authors in the world.
