Sintesi dell'editore

The Bird and the Sword: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!*

Swallow, daughter, pull them in, those words that sit upon your lips.

Lock them deep inside your soul, hide them ‘til they’ve time to grow.

Close your mouth upon the power, curse not, cure not, ‘til the hour.

You won’t speak and you won’t tell, you won’t call on heaven or hell.

You will learn and you will thrive. Silence, daughter. Stay alive.

The day my mother was killed, she told my father I wouldn’t speak again, and she told him if I died, he would die too. Then she predicted the king would sell his soul and lose his son to the sky. My father has a claim to the throne, and he is waiting in the shadows for all of my mother’s words to come to pass. He wants desperately to be king, and I just want to be free.

But freedom will require escape, and I’m a prisoner of my mother’s curse and my father’s greed. I can’t speak or make a sound, and I can’t wield a sword or beguile a king. In a land purged of enchantment, love might be the only magic left, and who could ever love...a bird?

*Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Narration is Mismatched

The writing is okay with some modern references and turns of phrase that sound out of place. The narrator sounds too modern and childish for the story. In addition the music is silly and often contradicts what is going on in the story.

Beautiful

I rarely give a book 5 stars, but this one, oh my. What a beautiful fantasy story that contains love, hate, magic, seers, kings, queens, kingdoms, wars, evil and more. This story grabbed me on the very first page and kept me reading and wanting to know more me until the last page and then some. I'm so very glad to know it has a sequel, which I immediately purchased. Amy Harmon is a consummate storyteller. I'm finding that I want to read her books more and more and probably won't stop until I have exhausted her library. She writes a story so full of history thus making the characters simply jump off the pages and come sit beside you as if they are telling you their story. My heart loved Lark and the king and I kept wanting more for them. A wonderful read that will leave your heart smiling.

A masterpiece!

I’ve enjoyed all of Amy Harmon’s books, but this one with background music was captivating, the narration was superb!

Well written, just not my style

Medieval setting with lots of magic...I prefer historical fiction....like Sand and Ash and What the Wind Knows...

"A sleeper"

I started this book, listened for maybe 15 minutes, became bored. I switched to another book, finished it, came back. Thank God I did! All I can say is WOW... I'm now a True Fan !

If you like your books to rhyme, this is for you

The story was okay, I didn't enjoy the rhyming for the spells. I found myself rolling my eyes every time the rhyming started. The narration is what made this book the must unenjoyable.

I don’t know what to title this. I don’t know anything anymore.

I am one of those people who probably use the no-questions-asked return policy for Audible a little too liberally. I’m very particular, especially about the books I read and listen to. I’m surprised I stuck with this until the end. This book... was a cool idea. I liked the whole “words have power” concept. It’s been done a thousand times and this one promised a new spin. What I got was a lukewarm romance with a ridiculous heroine and over-dramatic narration*. *I will say, the narrator was decent. She put her all into it. I didn’t hate her. I hated the material she was given and how annoying her voice was repeating the words she was given. She overacted some parts that made me want to shut it off, but I somehow managed to push through. For instance, if I have to hear Tiras’s name one more time, I may opt to have my eardrums removed instead. Now, while there wasn’t any part of this book I would have called “good”, there were certainly parts that weren’t “terrible” either.

Beautifully written, boring as heck

Author has a wonderful talent in pulling together memorable and beautiful prose. However this does not lend well for me for this genre. I feel plot and characters were lost for the flowery description. I understand why people would love this, but not for me.

Excellent!!

I love all of MS.Harmoms books. This was a great Fantasy Adventiure. All of her words brought the characters to life. Another thing is I can't bring myself to write any spoilers Sorry.

My favorite by far

This was my fourth Audio book by Amy Harmon and by far my favorite. I think the music really enhanced the audio book. The storyline and plot was intriguing. Just when you think you know what is going to happen or who the villain is there is a change and off you go again. I really enjoyed this book !
