Sintesi dell'editore

Summer at Fairacre charmingly recounts this bright, bustling season and the problems and possibilities that unfold against the backdrop of roses, skylarks and bees...

Joseph Coggs finds a temporary home in the schoolhouse while his mother is in the hospital. Miss Read’s friend Amy mysteriously disappears. And, perhaps most difficult of all, Mrs. Pringle, the grumpy school cleaner, is unable to work because of her ‘bad leg’. Still, the sounds of children playing and the fragrance of summertime flowers fill the air, as Miss Read shepherds her students and friends through the warm season.

A Gentle Pleasure

I enjoyed this book very much. There is something pleasing and gentle about the Fairacre stories. It was well read by Prunella Scales but I prefer Gwen Watford's narration of the Miss Read books.

Loved it.

Transported to another world of peace and tranquility, but for Mrs Pringle. Sorry to have finished it.

A wonderful tale. Lovely to be transported back to simpler and more gentle times. Prunella Scales fits Miss read’s persona admirably. More please

Prunella Scales and Miss Read are Perfect

All Miss Read books bring a wonderful soothing comfortable view into pastoral life and the delicious character of the village headteacher. My only minor gripe with this particular story is perhaps a little too much repetition of Mrs. Pringle. That said the delightful descriptions of the seasons and the countryside are so engaging. The whole is as delightful as summer sunshine or sitting by a log fire.

Each tale lifts my spirits.
