Sintesi dell'editore

In 1540, Mexico was declared to be New Spain. With a diverse culture, and great natural resources, it should have prospered like its northern neighbor. But Mexico's history includes political corruption, war, revolution, and grinding poverty. Why has the fate of Mexico been so different than that of the United States?

The World's Political Hot Spots series explains the basis of conflicts in some of the world's most politically sensitive areas. Many of these regions are in today's headlines, and tensions recently have become violent in virtually all of them. Each presentation covers up to 10 centuries of background, revealing how and why today's problems occur.

Very informative

In an effort to get some background informationa bout Mexico I downloaded this book and found it excellent. It was very informative and delightful. I found myself truely engaged on a subject that I didn't expect to be.

Well done!

A very interesting piece that presents a brief summary on modern the history of Mexico beginning in the late 1400s. My only complaint, it was too short and thus, left me wanting to learn more.

If I were cheating on a HS report. I'd use this.

Not a bad listen, but doesn't go very deep at all. After all it is fitting 500years of Mexican History into 8hrs of audio.

The overall performance is good. It's like watching one of those History Channel shows with the different actors reading quotes here and there.

If you are looking for a basic, not to deep overview. This is the book for you.

Fast track into Mexican history

Fast track into Mexican history. Very short but a nice overview from colonization to modern days. A lot for a few hours. Well done.

Very superficial, with an Ant-Clerical agenda

I guess what you pay for, the history was just a quick flight through Mexican history. The real issue I had was the unnecessary anti Catholic rhetoric that permeated throughout. But a quick check of the authors history reveals him him to possess of left leaning view of the world. He has written articles for leftist websites and publications. (How does he qualify to write a history of Mexico?)
So I guess I shouldn't be surprised the Catholic Church would not get its side of the story told. Whereas the Socialist leaning governments of Mexico do. But at least he does tell of how the Mexican people have always taken comfort in their faith, and always held it dear. If you want a good history of Mexico, this is not it. If you have some spare room on your MP3 player and have a road trip, and the radio is out and you have listened to all your other books. Then buy a another book. :-)
