Sintesi dell'editore

She's the only one who ever loved him - and the only one he can never have.

Jude lost everything one spring day when he crashed his car into an apple tree on the side of the road. A man is dead, and there is no way he can ever right that wrong. He would forever steer clear of Colebury, Vermont, if he could. But an ex-con in recovery for his drug addiction can't find a job just anywhere.

Sophie Haines is stunned by his reappearance. After a three-year absence, the man who killed her brother and broke her heart is suddenly everywhere she turns. It's hard not to stare at how much he has changed. The bad boy who used to love her didn't have big biceps and sun-kissed hair. And he would never volunteer in the church kitchen.

No one wants to see Sophie and Jude back together, least of all Sophie's father, the police chief. But it's a small town - and forbidden love is a law unto itself.

The narration was great too!

So many feels

This is one of the Shipley "family" members that I was so hoping to hear about and I wasn't disappointed at all.

The time has come for Jude to leave the Shipley farm and face his demons. He killed Sophie's brother and I thought there would be no way for him to redeem himself. Sophie is his soulmate and when they finally meet again he learns that things aren't going well for her either.

There are a lot of secrets and lies that finally get discovered leaving us with an HEA that made me feel ALL THE FEELS.

seraphine and Jeffrey were great narrators. Although I felt Jeffrey had an older voice than what I thought Jude would have, it was easy to readjust my preconceived notions and slip into his narration.

Jude Rocked, Sophie Wimpered

While I found Jude instantly engaging and sympathetic, I had a much harder time relating to the more wimpy Sophie. She meekly allowed her heartless father to batter her and her spineless mother to manipulate her entire life.

It was difficult to believe that a man as strong and resilient as Jude would be attracted to a young woman like Sophie who had no self-respect or awareness. If not for the amazing secondary characters, I probably would not have finished Steadfast.

Since this author is obviously incredibly talented, I am hopeful that her next series will focus on older, more mature characters rather than young adults.

Great story but...

The male narrator was great but his voice was far too mature for Jude's character. That is a pet peeve of mine. I think it's important to make sure those who narrate match the character.

great story, good female narrator

I enjoyed the story and the series, however I enjoyed the male narrator for the first book way more than Jude's narrator in this book. It sounded like Jude's narrator was trying to read his roll ironically. The narrator for Sophie was amazing. I've been brought in to the heartfelt story of this family and their loves and I enjoy the storylines.

Great story, but

I like this series so far but Jeffrey sounds like "Dragnet". Not much expression. Seraphine did a good job with both male and female voices. I felt like I got a small glimpse into the struggles of an addict.
Definitely worth the read.

5 Stars for this Audiobook, Writer, and Narrators

Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I loved this audiobook as a continuation in a series or a standalone. I had previously purchased the ebook and audio upgrade for the first book in the series, but hadn't gotten around to listening to it yet. I went ahead and listened to it first when I was given this second installment. I was unsure how I would like them since this is my first experience with the author and the narrators. However, the author and narrator, Jeffrey Kafer are praised and highly recommended in my facebook group Aural Fixation, so I thought I should give them a try. I FLoved them!!! The writing is excellent with the characters and their world, and the narrators did an excellent job of bringing them to life. I fell in love with Jeffrey Kafer's sexy, gruff and growly voice. I am now looking up other titles of his work to listen to. I can't wait for the third installment of this series to be released so I can emerge myself back into this world. Highly recommended.

Great Listen

I usually stay away from books about high school and teenage angst, but this coming of age story, overcoming addiction, overcoming heartbreak, and finding truth is more than worth the listen. I read the book and listened to the story. I loved the portrayal of the characters by Seraphine Valentine and Jeffrey Kafer, both new narrators to me. I thought they did a great job. It is the first book by this author for me as well. As I said, I usually avoid these types of stories, but this one caught me and kept me interested and rooting for the characters to find their way. More than worth your time and the listen.

Stop being the typical Liberal writer

Hate when writers have to put their stupid political views in the writing. You had a good story line going.....but no, you had to go and put your stupid Liberal comments in. Unity will never happen because of these liberal writers/people. Get over yourself. Just do your job, write and keep it to story lines, not political views. Just my take. Don't care if you don't like my take. I'm just tired of the woke police and liberal stupidity. AMERICA THE GREATEST.

Believable romance

Much credit has to be given to a writer who can make the hero of the story a recovering drug addict. I was a little wary about this book as I did not feel that this could ever lead to a convincing romance. This story did not shy away from the difficulties of fighting an addiction and the reader starts to get some understanding of how difficult it is to keep on trying when it seems there is very little hope of success. There was no easy 'quick fix' to the problems in this book but the romance was believable and touching.

Beautiful love story, beautifully written

Jude and Sophie will have you falling to your knees, your head in your hands, and tears streaming down your face.

Jude, fresh out of prison and currently in recovery, he knows he doesn't want to return to the scene of his crime and heartbreak, but he knows he has to do just that.
Sophie, the once heart-broken, yet still in love with Jude, returned home to take care of her family. She didn't want to see hte man who broke her, but as things tend to do, he was there anyway.

Second chances, addiction, recovery, and true love. Heartbreak and healing. Sarina Bowen nailed this story and the characters in it. This is one of my top Sarina books!

*5 Stars*

I was really keen to read/listen to this story, because we met Jude in the first book of this series, and I really thought that was some potential for both himself personally, and his history/future story.

Man, I was in for one hell of a ride. Both Sophie and Jude were wonderful main characters, and I thought the narrators brought them to life really well. Jude proved to be the man I thought he was, and then even more. Sophie has an interesting home life, and can I just say that I absolutely despised her father. Man, did I want to punch him sometimes. Ugh.

Secondary characters like Denny, who was sure a mix of things, and the Shipley family added to the story. I liked having them there, they're all great people.

There's also a bit of a mystery in this one, and when everything panned out, holy moly I didn't expect it. Some thing, yes, I started to think I was onto. But others, whoa.

I really loved this one, and I can't wait to continue this series, either via audio or reading the actual novel. Both would be great options.

A sad but beautiful addition to the series.

OMG! You have to listen to this! The story is what I've come to expect from this author but she seriously had my heart beating double time with this one. Amazing!

Farming never felt so appealing

A subtle second chance connection between sportsman turned farmer Griffin and Audrey was a satisfying listen. These two had chemistry but a relationship that took the slow build. I liked the farm setting, the family context and the connection.

Narration was good, dual POV.

Love this series

I loved Jude in book 1. I love him even more now I've read his story, and what a story! We follow Jude as he moves back to his hometown of Colebury and starts working back at his father's garage. Jude thinks his childhood sweetheart, Sophie will be long gone, surprisingly though she's still in town, living in her family home. Neither of them have seen each other since he was sent to prison over 3 years previously. It would seem though that some things haven't changed, firstly their desire for each other, and secondly their need to keep any contact they have with each other a secret. Sophie's dad, the police chief, hates Jude and blames him for the death of his son (Sophie's brother). Sophie still wants answers from Jude about the night her brother died, but Jude can't give her them. No one will answer her questions so she starts her own investigation. So many twists and turns in this excellent story which has some fantastic characters with strong hearts and lots of passion. I was hooked from the beginning and I can't wait to see what Ms Bowen produces next. Whatever it is I'm first in line.
