Sintesi dell'editore

With its emphasis on traditional values, family, faith, military service, good manners, small government, and independent-minded people, the South should certainly rise again.

Far from being the backwater of prejudice and ignorance that the liberal media would have you believe, the South has always been the center of American culture. From the founding fathers (Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, and many others) to the frontiersmen who tamed the West, to the country music and NASCAR-loving, Bible-thumping heart of "red state" America, the South is the quintessence of what's original, unique, and most loved about American culture.

Tubby Bearded Guy reference earned an extra star

I have to be careful when writing this review because Clint Johnson was a friend and classmate of mine at the University of Florida. As a fan of mystery/thrillers I found this book a little hard to get through at times. But I did learn some interesting stuff. I didn't know Lincoln tried to recolonize slaves to other countries after the war. I didn't know the Emancipation Proclamation primarily freed slaves only in Confederate States. I learned I can now refer to Clint as a TBG (Tubby Bearded Guy) because he participates in Civil War reenactments. At times the book seemed somewhat anecdotal but knowing how tediously Clint researches his material I feel confident that it is fact based. I got somewhat of an eerie feeling knowing that the ultra left has kicked up its attempt to rewrite history since this book was written a decade ago. Clint was very prescient in having a feel of what was to come in this area. I could have done without the two or three seemingly interminable listings of colleges and universities that were ranked highly and located in the South. Lists generally do not were well in audio books. I also grew a bit weary of hearing about books and movies I'm not supposed to read or watch without really knowing why. Presumably they cast the South in a more positive light that you might expect (or the North in a less positive one). If I was a Southern history buff, this book would have generated five stars. One final caution. A book you're not supposed to read: "The Politically Incorrect Guide to the South (and Why it Will Rise Again), written by Clint Johnson, release date:01-11-07, Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.

Real History

Not a bunch of lies like the school system teaches. Great information, and explanation of Southern Pride, and also great explanation of why the Confederate Flag.

Say what you want, Johnson does a great job

What did you love best about The Politically Incorrect Guide to the South (and Why it Will Rise Again)?

I was pleased to see some very positive reviews from the North East on this title, and very disappointed to see the negative review from my home state of SC (most likely from a W.J. Cash fan). Stated, I purchased the book and enjoyed the first chapter immensely. Having grown up in the culture, Johnson nailed it down solid in that chapter. Also, having to have spent a fair amount of time in NY and NJ, he also pegged the shared view that many of us who have had to do business there, share. Regardless of where you at from in the world, this is great book for understanding why true Southerners think the way they do. Deo Vindice forever and God save the South!

What other book might you compare The Politically Incorrect Guide to the South (and Why it Will Rise Again) to and why?

The South Was Right and some of the short essays from Dr. Hill's library on Golden Circle culture.

Which character – as performed by Dianna Dorman – was your favorite?

She's good - a little metered, but easy to listen to and I enjoy her vocal style.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"The Lost Cause - that once was Lost, but now is Found"

Any additional comments?

Brilliant book - excellent

There's a Lot of Good Things Going on Down South!

Author Clint Johnson, gives us a different perspective on the South and the roles that the South played in shaping America. Since the Southern Confederates lost the "Civil War", we tend to hear only the points of view of the victorious North, but everything isn't always what it seems.

This book brings out the facts of a lot of people who played significant roles in trying to prevent the country from entering into the war in the first place. The treatment of slaves, by both the North and South, and the roles that so many enslaved people had in shaping our country... that they were willing to fight for, on both sides.

With all of the recent books and movies about President Lincoln and his greatness... was he really all that great? Was he our greatest President? What were his true motives for enacting the Emancipation Proclamation which freed the slaves? I know what the "history books" tell us, but now I know so much more.

The South has been on the move for a while now as it is attracting a lot of the Northern population and companies down that way over the last several decades. Hopefully, our country has learned it's lessons form the past as we now watch over countries around the world fight for their independence. Let's learn from history, but seek out different perspectives on history too so that you have a broader perspective.
