Sintesi dell'editore

The JPS TANAKH: The Jewish Bible, audio version, is a recorded version of the JPS TANAKH, the most widely read English translation of the Hebrew, or Jewish, Bible. Produced and recorded for The Jewish Publication Society (JPS) by The Jewish Braille Institute (JBI), this complete, unabridged audio version of the Torah features over 14 hours of readings by seven narrators. The Torah is the essence of Jewish tradition; it inspires each successive generation. The current JPS translation, based on classical and modern sources, is acclaimed for its fidelity to the ancient Hebrew.

Funding for this recording is made possible through the generosity of Aaron Feingold, M.D., in memory of Esther Feingold, who saw life "with a good eye" (Pirke Avot); Dr. Seymour and June Kessler, in memory of Harry and Rose Kessler, remembered with love; and Norman and Edith Weisfeld, in loving memory of Benjamin and Rose Krumholz, and David Weisfeld.

Some crazy myths and dry/ childish reading

What did you like best about The Torah: The JPS Audio Version? What did you like least?

I liked that I didn't have to spend time reading the material, and could listen instead. I listened to gain a better understanding of religious beliefs, as a non-religious individual. The story is insane, however, and is also very boring. That's hard to pull off as usually the insane can at least be spun as interesting. There are many points where murder and genocide are prescribed as courses of action within, this is unfortunate.

Would you ever listen to anything by The Jewish Publication Society again?

Yes, but a little material goes a long way, that is, I wouldn't want to have to listen to material produced by the society often.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narrators read in a very irritating, childish manner. If their goal was to make the material seem even more ridiculous, they succeeded.

Could you see The Torah: The JPS Audio Version being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I believe the History Channel has been portraying these myths as history for quite some time, already, and Hollywood has already made Charlton Heston into Moses.
