Sintesi dell'editore

In one of his most enlightening works, C.S. Lewis shares his ruminations on both the form and the meaning of selected psalms. In the introduction he explains, "I write for the unlearned about things in which I am unlearned myself." Consequently, he takes on a tone of thoughtful collegiality as he writes on one of the Bible's most elusive books.

Characteristically graceful and lucid, Lewis cautions us that the psalms were originally written as songs that should now be read in the spirit of lyric poetry rather than as doctrinal treatises or sermons. Drawing from daily life as well as the literary world, Lewis begins to reveal the mystery that often shrouds the psalms.

A CS book unlike no other

I would not say this book is CS Lewis' best book. However, it is different than any other CS book I have read. If you are familiar with the Psalms, this book is great to listen to. Otherwise, you would have to pause the book and reference the verses and flip from chapter to chapter to follow its contents. The book is an overview of the Psalms. CS Lewis takes various themes(worship, judgment, sacrifice, joy...) and traces them throughout the 150 chapters of Psalms.
Though CS Lewis has a great mind, this book comes accross as having a devotional flavor, which is neat to hear. CS Lewis does not hit you with his intellect and logic as much as his other books, but in a candid manner. It is like sitting down with a brother in Christ over a cup of coffee and talking about God's Word.

Great Book!

I enjoyed listening to this book. The reader made me think I was listening to C S Lewis himself. The only thing I didn't like was that this is the kind of book I like to underline in and make notes to myself. So I will probably go out and buy it. I would definitely recommend this book.

Thoughtful, brilliant Lewis

Unlike most of Lewis's books, this one is explicitly aimed at Christian believers. In it, Lewis does not work psalm by psalm, but works through a set of themes, starting with some of the difficult issues in the Psalms like judgment, cursing, violence and the like. His insights are certainly worth pausing over. He works the themes as someone who is a sensitive reader, but also has a compendious knowledge of myth (Christian and otherwise) and literary form.

another great work by C.S. Lewis

as always I believe the C.S. Lewis brings a unique perspective to the texts of the Christian faith. I find this work deeply thought provoking, which is needed in the study of God's word.

Fantastic!

If you're only able to purchase one CS Lewis book/sermon, this is the one. The performance was very good and the message was great. I kept stopping to take notes. I'm definitely going to listen to this one multiple times. CS Lewis is so honest in his messages.

C.S. Lewis continues to shine

Wonderful insights into the Psalms. Lewis never fails to impress and awe. Cosham is a wonderful narrator and makes Lewis's words come to life.

Listen to the whole book

The Psalms is one of my favorite book for it is a wonderful outline of how to cry out all your pain raw feelings & emotions - than - remember God's faithfulness - believe in God's mercy - then trust. CS Lewis does a wonderful way to handle the raw emotions & politically incorrect anger & pain spilled out in the Psalms

Couldn't be happier

I will be listening to this again and on occasion for a long time. I was excited to get it because I was already a C.S. Lewis fan, but this blew me away.

Lover of The Word

So revealing about the psalms and the writers of the psalms. Excellent book. Enjoyed having the audio version. Will listen to it again because it contains so much exegesis.

It's great, I have eighteen more words to write before I can hit submit and go on with life. The stars are sufficient

Reflective

Would you listen to Reflections on the Psalms again? Why?

Yes. Lots to think about.

What didn’t you like about Ralph Cosham’s performance?

His voice comes across as very harsh, which makes the whole thing less easy to listen too.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Any additional comments?

Great book, lots of worthwhile stuff. Just a shame this reader isn't too my taste
