Sintesi dell'editore

Pollyanna, an expert at her favorite "Glad Game" of always looking at the bright side in her numerous trials, is one of the most popular and enduring characters in all of children's literature.

As Pollyanna arrives in Beldingsville to live with her strict and dutiful maiden aunt, she exclaims, "Oh, Aunt Polly, I don't know how to be glad enough that you let me come to live with you!" And from this point she begins to bring cheer into everybody's life, including the sick, the lonely, and the just plain miserable. All are transformed until one day when something so terrible happens that even Pollyanna doesn't know how to feel glad anymore.

Another Winner!

Somehow in my youth I managed to miss the story of Pollyanna. I had never read the book or seen a movie version. When my children's literature list turned up this gem, we decided to listen to it together. We all loved it!

The story itself is precious. We described it as "Anne of Green Gables meets the Secret Garden and The Railway Children." Pollyanna's difficult situation and her positive take on practically everything actually challenged my thinking and helped me to look at the bright side of things as well.

The story was wonderful, the performance was great, and we all were uplifted by this story. I Highly recommend for kids to adults.

Children's classic, but dated

I remember the Disney movie of this story, which is fairly faithful to the book. I liked the narration, but found the story dated and rather cloying. The repetive use of "being glad" became really annoying, although I appreciate the lesson of looking for the good rather than focusing on the negative.

The story of Pollyanna is so refreshing and a great reminder for better today and future. No matter what life may bring, we can try to be patient and exercise ourselves to think better, be empathetic.
I'm glad I got to find this book, Pollyanna on Audible.

I am just so glad!

I grew up watching the Disney version of Pollyanna and I was pleasantly surprised at how close the movie was to the book. I laughed and even cried a little. So much joy and gratitude wrapped up into one little girl, that I was reminded not only how I need a thankful heart, but that I needed a glad one too. A must read/ listen for anyone who is struggling and needs hope.

A New-to-Me Classic

I'd heard about Pollyanna for years, and yet only this year (2019) finally decided to read it. At the very beginning it reminded me of Anne of Green Gables the way the servants were going to the train station to get Pollyanna and she chattered their ears off on the way home. I love AoGG but didn't want an exact copy of it so I was glad when things started being different. I appreciated Pollyanna's hopeful outlook on the word and found the story uplifting and cute. Pollyanna's glad game was an excellent reminder to look for the good in any situation.

My only complaint is that I thought the big, life-changing THING that happened to her happened a little abruptly. In reality, I guess all life changing accidents seem that way, but for the sake of the story it still felt out of the blue, especially since the reader is told about it in a distant sort of way, almost like we’re a friend being told about it after the fact. However, I loved how the community rallied around her, putting into practice the things she'd taught them, and things ultimately took a turn back towards the better. I give it four stars because, while it was enjoyable I actually enjoyed certain elements of the movie better *ducks in case of flying tomatoes* and while the book was enjoyable, it has not become a new favorite classic. The second book comes highly recommended by an Instagram friend of mine, though, so I will probably read that one at some point, too. The narration on this audiobook was excellent.

Wonderfully uplifting!

Glad I finally listened to the story that generated the expression Pollyannaish. I highly recommend it.

pollyanna

I enjoyed this book. The only fault i found was that, the voice of the young were old. which spoilt it a little. It would be difficult to make it any other way

A classic

Although supposedly a child's book, I have much enjoyed this as an adult. Recommended.
