Sintesi dell'editore

Plato was the first great philosopher of the West to organize and record the issues and questions that define philosophy. A student of Socrates, Plato preserved the teachings of his mentor in many famous "dialogues" that deal with classic issues like law and justice, perception and reality, death and the soul, mind and body, reason and passion, and the nature of love. The most famous of all Platonic doctrines is the "theory of forms", the idea that there are changeless, eternal forms on which existing things are modeled.

The Giants of Philosophy is a series of dramatic presentations, in understandable language, of the concerns, questions, interests, and overall world view of history's greatest philosophers. Special emphasis on clear and relevant explanations gives you a new arsenal of insights toward living a better life.

The Updated Socrates

If you could sum up Plato in three words, what would they be?

Clever, successful, improved.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

Plato is the reason we know anything about Socrates, Plato also took many of Socrates' ideas and expanded on them.

What does Charlton Heston bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Legibility. Plato presents many confusing ideas, and the explanations made by Charlton Heston make it easier to understand.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

NO! This is a long book, which is best listened to in several sittings.

Any additional comments?

A very good summation of Plato

Call me biased but Charlton Heston can read anything and capture me. In this work you get a good overview of Plato and Socrates. This is a good place to start ones path to Philosophy.

Political theories grew old

This was not the fault of anyone. I just got a little bored during the political theory section. I LOVED the biographical section on Socrates.
