Sintesi dell'editore

Against the ominous backdrop of the influenza epidemic of 1918, Elsie, the class tattletale, liar, and thief, claims the new girl at school, Annie, as her best friend. But Annie soon makes other friends as well and finds herself joining them in teasing and tormenting Elsie, who later succumbs to the epidemic and dies. Elsie is not absent from school long, though. She soon returns there as a ghost, ready to reclaim Annie's friendship and to punish all the girls who bullied her.

Amazinggg

The story itself was amazing, but the narrator captured the exact theme I would have imagined the story to be pronounced in.

One for sorrow

The narrative was poorly done. Changes of voices were poor.

Great scary story for the kids

this is not a book like Goosebumps, there's actually a lot of depth within these stories. It was suggested to me to listen to this because my kids like scary stories but if you ever search the realm of horror it's pretty R-rated. this was not, this is very entertaining for both children and adults, it had depth, character, suspense, and you leaves you hanging just enough to wonder how far they could have took the story. The author did an amazing job and the narrator did very well portraying the characters in this book. I would suggest for any parent that is looking for something entertaining but also safe to listen around with children

Disappointed

I fell in love with Mary Downing Hahn when I read Wait Til Helen Comes as a child. I was hoping for so much more than I got from this book.
Elsie seemed like more of a caricature than a real person, and I never liked her. Though she was a very sad child in life, I couldn't really feel sorry for her. The setting of the Flu Epidemic following WW1 was intriguing, but fell short of conveying the fear and dread it should have evoked. I was also disappointed with the lack of growth in Annie. The author missed several opportunities to teach valuable life lessons.

The narrator's voice was, overall, harsh and unpleasant to listen to. Furthermore, she sounded too modern for the time period.

Complex relationships among dead and living

Just the perfect amount of spooky added to the complexity of relationships among adolescent girls- both alive and dead. I also enjoy the historical events, games, and fads described throughout the story. The allusions to classic literature and their authors will encourage a new generation to seek and enjoy them.
